It seems that every movie now gets ported to 3D, but not all movies should be watched in 3D. (Just because one can..doesn't mean one should)
Although it was great movie, Avengers was one of them. The 3D element for Avengers was just like it was plugged into a 2D movie to make it 3D. Unlike Avatar, where there's a huge difference in the experience between 2D and 3D.
The question then is.. what about The Hobbit? I've been waiting in anticipation for this movie for a long time. And I'd hate to make the wrong choice. LOtR was awesome, and in Menlyn's large cinemas it still felt like you're pulled into that world. I don't really see how 3D will add more to the movie experience unless the movie really was shot for 3D. (If that makes sense)
It really is a matter of which one to pick. Because if I watched Avatar in 2D, just to be safe, the awesome 3D experience would be lost because a movie just isn't the same on the 2nd viewing. And on the other hand, I really wished that I watched Avengers in 2D.
What to do? What to do?
