Gonna try the fired earth brand vs Dulux because of the colour available.

Actually went there because the Durham armatex was the wrong price on the website @ R350. Only problem was the finish was too rough for inside use.

Today will be polyfiller, prep and first coat. Tomorrow second coat en cleaning.

Fired Earth is not bad. Only problem is you won't be able to get the same color in 5 years.

What you can try is go to your local builders warehouse find a dulux color you like and ask them if they can mix it using a fired earth base.

I did it with a Plascon color i liked. The plascon was R1200 for a 5L and the Fired earth was R600 for a 5L. So i got the same color just for R600 cheaper. But this was oil based, i don't know if they can do this with water based paints.

Avoid Plascon unless you want to paint water and 200 coats

The Duram is absolutely perfect, I've used it many times. And yes I've bought those cheapy Plascon ones thinking let me try, effing useless.

And then the plan is to close off the main patio area with aluminium stacking doors and windows. Doing this will give me an extra 35 sqm of "indoor" space.

The body corporate will be covering about 40% of the costs. They are obviously liable for the existing roofs, all the extensions and new roofs are for my account.

Did the payment in the week. They plan on completing the project before the easter weekend.

What is the red drawings? are those new or repair jobs...

The far left "red" is 100% going to cause a leak / crack, troubles down the line.

Why is the whole roof being replaced? this sounds seriously excessive...

Reason = Removal of thatch roofs.

The red lip on the far left is what will be removed. Some of the red is new work to be done and some are things that need to be changed.
 
Hi guys

I need to prep 2 new solid wooden doors for outside use?

they are for my garage french doors leading out into backyard.

the outside face will get beating up by the sun - the original hollow doors have cracked & split and look sh it now.

Outside solid wood door, just sand it nice as you want it then paint it with Woodoc 50 Marine, it's their strongest product. Comes in Matt / Gloss etc

I would go for something that soaks into the wood.. avoid a varnish that is going to just sit on the surface.. you'll be sanding and varnishing those doors every two years for the rest of your time living there..

Is that not why you dilute the varnish for the 1st coat?

Yes, you should dilute your 1st coat.. However, you should always apply a minimum of 3 coats.. So now your 2nd 3rd coats are sitting on the surface and will get destroyed by the sun and start cracking and need sanding and varnishing again..

Indeed, that's why you can't buy cheap. I generally get at least 6 years out of mine.

Woodoc, always.

Atleast 3 coats. Sand lightly between coats and wipe down with thinners or turps, then next coat, etc.

Yeah look having a nice set of charcoal aluminium stacker doors that opens up your space is nice. Mine has taken a fscking beating from the sun.
The color is faded to hell.

Takealot sells these bottles of Alurenew or something that you treat the frames with. It works. But it's temporary. The same with my garage door.

The sun takes no prisoners.
