The ICC T20 World Cup 2016 thread

What was that comment from Marlon Samuels about Shane Warne?

Couldn't hear clearly. Will probably read something about it tomorrow.

Someone with a new PVR could rewind and listen to it again.

EDIT:

Just heard from a friend ... Shane Warne throughout the tournament had a lot to say about the WI and about Samuels. The trophy is dedicated to Shane Warne and now Samuels wants to take the trophy and put it somewhere (shove it) that he can't say on television.

Churchill, you Guys have a good squad moving forward.... Number 1 on agenda is to get rid of Morgan. He is a poor captain and he scored almost no runs in the entire tournament. ..Root for captain.. NOW!!!

If it was SA, the first discussion would be "Did we choke?".

Your lads never choke, it's always down to BMT, just like tonight, Braithwaite vs Stokes, and Stokes came off second best! That's sport for you. The better team always wins.

Shane vs Marlon Samuels

It’s no secret the spin king and West Indies veteran Marlon Samuels don’t think too highly of each other, and Warne is making sure that remains the case for quite some time.

Working as a commentator for Star Sports at the World Twenty20, Warne couldn’t resist having a crack at Samuels during the semi-final between India and the West Indies.

Samuels was dismissed at a crucial stage of the Windies innings, dismissed for 8 off 7 balls to leave his team in big trouble on 2-19 after three overs.

The manner of Samuels’ dismissal was what sparked Warne’s rant, as the Jamaican backed away from an Ashish Nehra slower ball and popped up a simple catch to Ajinkya Rahane.

“Well, this is a bit embarrassing for Marlon Samuels,” Warne said. “Look where he is. He’s nearly off the pitch backing away again. He’s backed away every ball.

“I said the ball before, if he (Nehra) can give him a good short one and get one outside off stump that Marlon Samuels was backing away so much he nearly couldn’t reach it.

“For your No.3, Marlon Samuels, in this situation in such a big game, that’s an embarrassing dismissal. That’s pretty poor.”

Spot on SinghDude, J Bairstow needs to be in the team and not Morgan, Morgan brings Irish luck to the English team.

Yeah....few necessary changes needed.....I was surprised with Willey....did really well opening. I have no idea why Jordan is in the team....not good enough IMO.

The WI winning ANOTHER WC really grates me. We have been a far better team than them consistently over the past 20 years yet they have 2 WC. We have produced far better players yet WTF do we have to show for it?

Plain and simple, we are kark. Our players have big attitudes, they think they are the best in the world and we do not select the right players.

Good question.

My own view is we shouldn't make too much of things like World Cups. These global title tournaments are a recent invention, designed mainly for TV in order to extract more money for the professional bureaucrats who make a living off the sports/wo/men. It's all done through, with and in the media, and in my view it's overhyped, overblown and overwrought.

Cricket has a venerable history that long antedates tournies like World Cups. It's the tours and tests that are the mainstay that keeps us entertained.

Personally, I'm not much impressed by World Cup titles. The games are fun, of course. But I quickly forget about World Cups in any sport.

What do we have to show for it, you ask? Plentsh fun & games. World Cup titles? Don't matter to me.

Not only won, but won in spite of of this -

We started this journey … we all know we had … people were wondering whether we would play this tournament. We had a lot of issues, we felt disrespected by our board, Mark Nicholas described our team as a team with no brains. All these things before the tournament just brought this team together. I really want to thank these 15 men, the ability to just put all those adversities aside and to come out and play this type of cricket in front of such passionate fans, it's just tremendous.

I personally also want to thank the coaching staff, coach Phil, he's been through a lot, and to come here and the way he's coached the team, he's just brilliant. All the other coaching staff, who have done their part. We had a new manager in this tournament in Rawl Lewis, he had never managed any team before. He came here, we were at a camp in Dubai, but we had no uniforms, no printed … he left Dubai, went to Kolkata, that's where he started. The trouble he went to, to get us in this uniform … I got to give credit to the entire team here, it was us in our own little circle, this win we dedicate it to all our fans in the Caribbean.

Lastly I really want to thank the heads of CARICOM, throughout this tournament they have been supporting the team, we've got emails, we've got phone calls, Prime Minister [Keith] Mitchell [from Grenada]. He sent a very inspiring email for the team this morning … and I'm yet to hear from our own cricket board. That is very disappointing.

For today, I'm going to celebrate with these 15 men and coaching staff. I don't know when I'm going to be playing with these guys again because we don't get selected for one-day cricket. We don't know when we're going to be playing T20. So this win, I want to thank you my team, I want to thank you coaching staff … everybody know West Indies are champion!

Its really nice to see that we aren't the only ones on the podium of chockers after this tournament. We are joined by the honorable mister stokes ( or should it be mister chokes now) and bangladesh...
