The injection

Then consider other similar hormonal contraceptives, such as the hormonal IUD or the hormonal implant (implanted somewhere in the arm). Both use the same hormone and last for years.

Just be careful of such things - they can and do have long term effects on the body. I presume you guys are older, in which case, bone loss might be even more of an issue. Consult a gynae I would say.

Why do you want to avoid periods so badly? I get that they aren't pleasant, but the alternatives could be dangerous to her health.

I know a girl who got pregnant while on the injection :wtf: Doctor was surprised lol

Cause they are extremely painful and since hubby had a vasectomy there is no reason for me to suffer like this every month.
Been to gynae for checks and all is well so there's no medical issue, I just have painful periods, gynae says to take pain killers.
One cant simply elect to have a hysterectomy unless there is medical reasons for it, so I'm needing another solution. Need these periods gone.

My wife wants to get "the injection" as a contraceptive and also to hopefully stop her getting a period.

We live in cape town and she says she cannot find anywhere to go to get it.

Can anyone help?

Its best to see a gynecologist because there are many health risks when using this form of contraception, but if she's not interested in that and want a cheaper option, clicks and other pharmacies do it, also Marie stopes.

Isnt this injection effectively free for any women in SA to do? Oops sorry that is the microchip and i havnt heard anything about that in a while.

The injection is free, the money you pay is the "admin/service" fee. Some doctors charge R50/R100 etc , some charge the full consultation fee. Its up to the service provider.

My doctor didn't like the idea of the injection because periods, as awful as they are, tell you a lot about your reproductive health. Irregular periods/ painful periods could also signify an underlying problem. Your Mrs should in any case go to a gynae or at least a GP for an annual check up, and then get proper advice there. This is very important.

What do you mean by "prolonged period"?
I was on injection for 3 years and my sister-in-law for 4 years.

I have a friend with a lovely child who was also on it for 3 years, then her lovely child arrived.

Government administers this for free. Otherwise try Dischem or Clicks.

Apparently there is a shortage of nuristerate in the country????
