I would have thought everyone would have this on the front page of their websites.

Here is the link to the bill for those who do not know:
ITweb Article
BusinessTech Article
EWN Article

Petition by the DA
The Films and Publications Amendment Bill, in its current form, is an attempt by the government to censor the internet.

Please use this thread to discuss everything related to this bill. I was away for a while and did not see a sticky and thought it best we have this thread as this bill will affect all of us.

Somebody please post a TL;DR version of the bill

You need to register in order to post something on mybroadband and it must be approved by the FPB.

News24/EWN/IOL/Enter News Site, needs to submit it's news to the FPB and may only publish if they approve it.

You need to register in order to post on Youtube, Facebook, Twitter etc and your content must be approved by the FPB.

Which are the relevant bits of the Bill that are going to make it so my comments on MyBB need to be approved by the FPB?

Looks like I'll have to leave the country if this bill is passed. :(

Any message or communication, placed on any distributed network including, but not confined to, the internet.

Is that line from the version heading for the NCOP, or a previous version?

(I'm not trying to argue with you or anything, I just want to make sure we're all on the same page)

That line is from the businessTech article, I've read the bill they don't specify it's very much open to interpretation in my opinion, which I find worrisome since they cast the net as wide as possible.

So, it's from a previous version. Careful what you assert, if you are just believing whatever you read (it was correct at the time, obviously). :)

Which is not in any way a defense of the Bill. This stuff does my head in, personally, and it's not helped by any sort of misinformation, no matter intentional or not.

Wait I'm not following, what has changed?

The wording that you used, in response to my question, no longer exists in the Bill (as far as I can see).
What is the wording now, I'm not aware of anything that changed the bill is the same as it was when it was sent off to the president or am I missing something?

Don't take my word for it, but as far as I can tell, this (the bit you quoted):

Any message or communication, placed on any distributed network including, but not confined to, the internet.

Has been contained in the Act since 1999. The Bill that's heading for the NCOP changed that clause to:

any content made available using the internet, excluding a film or game;

You can see this in the handy links you posted to the bill tracker earlier.

The point I am trying to make is that if you are concerned about this issue, and want to raise awareness, you have to be correct in what you say, is all.

I hear what you are saying, but that wording is even worse as it affects everything related to the internet and you.
