The iOS 15 Thread/Discussion

Skipping the beta train this time. Don’t really see a point in it anymore.

Maybe the new Cyber bill. Usually it’s regulatory stuff. I was surprised as well.
I'm hoping its because it is early days. They might need to get the infrastructure out world wide to support it. Use US as a beta test, then open it up to more regions the closer it comes to release.

I'm curious though, will this work for other browsers? Seeing as they all use Webkit on iOS

Use AdGuard
That is an option, but comes at an additional cost, where Private Relay is "essentially" free for me, because I already subscribe to Apple One + additional iCloud storage.

Also, this appears to be more related to the way TOR works, just with less nodes, than an actual VPN.

Disappointing as I was also looking forward to this.

I did try out the new Hide My Email address feature through beta.iCloud.com and it’s seems really good so far. Feels like a great feature to combine with my 1Password account.
you can also create them on a iOS \ iPadOS 15 B1 device.

Settings - Your Name - iCloud - Hide my email - Create new address

Although, this menu seems a bit buggy, doesnt always open up straight away

I havent looked into it yet, but they said it also supports custom domains. Would probably need to change the TXT,MX record to point to Apple for this to work, but keen to give it a go.

So I will definitely be keeping my A12Z 2020 iPad Pro after seeing the iPad OS 15 features, seems there isn’t anything to truly take advantage of the M1+16GB RAM in the 2021 iPad Pros.

That being said, I do like the nice touches added to iPad OS with the multitasking and finally being able to add widgets anywhere in the Homescreen, I feel as though that feature should have come in iPad OS first versus iOS.

Don’t think so, swapped out Chrome for the MS Edge beta and Edge is the fastest browser atm.
Also use FF for YouTube PiP streaming.
Safari is the only browser with support for HTTP/3 from my tests.

Well it’s only for browsing so not really useful for me, apps are already bypassing ad-blockers if you’re not using DoH/DoT.

If MacRumors is right it’s all data.

One of these features is iCloud Private Relay, which is designed to encrypt all of the traffic leaving your device so no one can intercept it or read it.

Nice company SA is keeping in that list.
Yeah, I'm convinced it's for this reason now and it's a big ouch to be lumped in that company of countries now, damn.

All unencrypted data in a sense, as documented so far in the developer documentation.
If your app is still using http not https for example.
Use of the feature can be prevented by blocking the Private Relay Edge domains, such as on campus networks.

The feature requires much larger infrastructure than we currently have in use, remember the egress proxy needs to be operated by another provider with the ability to provide an IP pool that can match the location of a user.

Though that doesn’t seem to be working as stated, when I tried Private Relay last night I was just outside Wichita, Kansas according to my IP.

I assume your region is set to US, or some other place not in SA?

with SA blocking the Private relay, it finally pushed me to enabling DoH on my devices.

Which do you use? I'm currently using the Cloudflare with antimalware
