The iOS 15 Thread/Discussion

Apple releases iOS 15.4.1 with battery issues fix for iPhone and iPad

After launching iOS 15.4 a couple of weeks ago, Apple is releasing iOS 15.4.1. This update should fix battery drain issues that iPhone and iPad users were experiencing with the previous version. Apart from that, Apple is also bringing updates for tvOS, watchOS, and macOS users.

Today’s build is 19E258. You can update your iPhone by heading to the Settings app, choosing General, then choosing Software Update.

Here are the release notes for iOS 15.4.1 for iPhone and iPad users:

  • Battery may drain more quickly than expected after updating to iOS/iPadOS 15.4
  • Braille devices may become unresponsive while navigating text or displaying an alert
  • Made for iPhone/iPad hearing devices may lose connection within some third-party apps
Super quick there by Apple sorting out the battery drain some were facing.

Updating now.

Honestly, I love the fact that I can get the latest iOS update as soon as it’s out, along with everyone else, instead of still having to wait for Google to send the latest Android update to Samsung who’d spend months messing with it before they sent it to Vodafone to screw it up even further, before they eventually let me download it months later.

This is so true actually, one of the main things that brought me to iOS.

I was always jumping on to a new Samsung Galaxy either yearly or every other year and there were a few times I remember where a huge bug took months to solve. One particular bug was on the S4, I remember buying the Galaxy S4 on local launch day outright from Samsung’s stand in the Digital Experience Store at Fourways Crossing and having the camera on it crash on every 2nd launch, this bug stayed around for about 2 months before it got sorted. The phone was not even a network branded phone, it was on clean Samsung FW from Samsung SA, but I had to wait for my region (XFA I believe it was?) to receive the update. I remember resorting to changing CSC and all that to Germany or Poland to get updates immediately, crazy times

It actually became a standard of mine to use my Samsung on network FW for a few weeks and then when I see guides popping up, I connect it to Odin and change CSC. This was especially necessary if like me you hated sitting there and watching peeps in Europe getting the latest Android OS version, especially in the days of ICS, KitKat, Lollipop etc…while you wait for Samsung SA to get their act together along with your network, pain.

Don’t have to worry about all that on the iPhone which is nice.

Lol most Android updates happen in the Play Store whereas with iOS you need a system update for them.

Are OS and overall FW updates coming through Play Store now?
My issue was mainly with things like bugs E.g. a camera bug or a battery drain bug, which would really linger. I don’t know how things are now though, my last Samsung was my Note8 and it’s no longer being supported. Have to say Samsung SA seemed to be improving with the Note8 in the first year but after that they lagged, some security updates came months later for us in SA, I think I kept it on the DBT or DTM CSC which was German or Dutch to ensure I got updates as soon as possible.

What is interesting is that a relative of mine got an iPhone X the same year I got my Note8, both were the “$1000 flagships”, the iPhone X just got 15.4.1 and my Note8 doesn’t seem to have had a security update since 2021 and no OS update for a few years now.

No, just had my latest FW update and security patch arrive from OnePlus via OTA earlier this week.

Though I had to use Oxygen Updater as OnePlus direct are fecking awful at pushing the updates to all phones at the same time.

Shhhh, just let him come over to the dark side, slowly…

He thinks Cubot make expensive phones and his MTN Steppa is a decent phone.

The chances of him getting enough cash to buy an iPhone is like Putin winning Humanitarian of the Year.

Many things get updated through the store now with more added on every new version. https://source.android.com/devices/architecture/modular-system

Oh okay, yea I remember this. For the bigger stuff like security updates along with things related to manufacturer’s UI/skin/custom FW and OS updates you still need to wait for the manufacturer and if you have a branded device still need to wait for network to do the update then.

So if Samsung have a battery drain issue, or for example the GOS situation, they issue their own update and it needs to go through the regions, countries and networks.

This drove me insane with Android.
I know Samsung did also do updates of some components through Galaxy Store. It does break the experience quite a bit as well, Google did it nicely with updates happening in the background but every now and again you’d have that pesky Google Play Services update that ravages battery life for a few days or weeks.

No thanks, I prefer my system updates through a system update, no need to go to a store for them.

Oh and I get all my updates, right when it's released - same as everyone else, no need to wait for anything...etc etc.

Updated, will see if there’s any improvement (not that I have anything to compare with as I got the phone two day ago)

Anyone else having issues trimming/editing video clips with this latest update?
