I have a problem with phones, I buy them...often. In 2008 alone, I've had a i600, Nokia E90, Nokia N81, Nokia N81 8GB, Nokia N95, HTC Touch, HTC Tytn, HTC Tytn II, iPhone, and I have a Sony Ericsson W880i arriving next week.
I have even been banned from Gumtree for being a "commercial seller".
One interesting thing, I've never sold or been tempted to sell my iPhone. Even with all it's shortfalls, even with it's restrictions...it's the best "smartphone" I've got.
The touch and Tytn II went because I didn't like having the touch screen. Wait, the iPhone is a touchscreen. It seems apple just got it right. There's no stylus to pull out - no tiny buttons to be pressing with my finger and it's quite sensitive. I can sms or email at full speed on the touch screen keyboard, without even thinking boy, I wish there was a proper keyboard.
The E90 went because although it's internet ability was fantastic, the phone is really big. I carry two phones, and for one of them to be so big is just too much in my pockets. I did really like the phone, and was hesitant to sell it (used the money to buy a mac-mini though so it was well spent). The iPhone also has an excellent websufer, which can render full webpages in all their splendor, and is very easy to use.
Email is another big thing for me. NO PHONE!!! NO Phone gives me the full HTML email the iPhone does. Yes, the Tytn II technically could, but not linked to my Exchange Server 2003 system. The iPhones email works seemlesly, picking up emails every 15 minutes. It uses FAR less data doing so aswell, my E90 was wracking up the data charges with the push email working away.
Wifi. I donno how apple got it so right, and everyone got it so wrong. Wifi drains the battery on smartphones so that they don't even last the whole day out. Wifi on my iPhone is always on, obviously only connected when in range of my network - but even so, the iPhone has the best better life out of all of them!
So....Size, touchscreen, internet, email. The iPhone wins for me. I can only wish they give me a 3G version...but in all honesty, edge is just a little slow and not totally unbearable!
The iPhone also does music better than any of the others. Naturally.
My phones are now going to be my iPhone, my N95 for times when I dont want to use my iPhone and my W880i for the smallness factor of it.
