The iPod Touch 32G Help Wayne Setup Thread.

I just got a belated birthday gift this afternoon. An iPod Touch 32G from my daughter in the USA. What can I do with it and how do I set it up to use?

Please keep the terminology simple for me to understand otherwise I will have to ask kilo to jailbreak it for me.

Just get a US account as detailed on the sticky tips thread, first page. Then get some free apps! Buy iTunes vouchers, for paid apps.

My daughter has the iPhone 4 do you think she would have an account maybe?

It is a useful device if you don't mind swearing allegiance to SJ by agreeing to the iTunes terms and conditions.

Lots of interesting Apps, and you can check the weather, read newspapers & magazines, etc,etc. Biggest fault IMO is that SJ disabled the GPS.

I have one identical to yours but I don't use it any more.

I just don't know how it works and thought i had to put a sim card in but obviously not. How would you set it up to do all the things it does, I assume i need to be connected to the internet or something but how???

It has wifi, that is how you connect to the internet - look under settings.

But before you can do anything you need to swear allegiance to SJ (ie activate it by connecting it to a PC with iTunes installed).

BTW, the most important use for Apple devices is to play Angry Birds on them - although this pandemic has now also spread to the Android world !

Oh, and it plays movies quite well - ideal for when you are standing in queues, etc.

what happens if I don't have wifi at home or in my area, do I use it as a paperweight then?

Not sure if you can download Apps via iTunes, but you may be able to.

Oh yeah, little tip: when they ask for your address when you register your Apple ID on the store, use the following:
1 Infinite Loop Cupertino, CA 95014

Works great.
