The Islamic State Thread

Ag seriously ! Hou jou *&%^ ! Cant u see the whole world is in general opposing ISIS , Muslim or not , do you have to continually hate ? You like to generalize and choose your battles , seems hatred runs more in your blood than radicals so called muslims !

Thats why the Arab countries are rushing to help out the coalition..... not!

Only people trying to help out are the Persians.Arabs are all sitting pretty and most are too cowardly to join in the fight against ISIL. Guess the "big bad" Western powers will have to sort out the **** in that part of the world. Again.

KURDS RETAKE CHRISTIAN VILLAGES FROM IRAQ JIHADISTS

Kurdish peshmerga forces on Tuesday recaptured several Christian villages in northern Iraq in clashes with Islamic State (IS) jihadists, an officer and a cleric said.

Tens of thousands of Iraqi Christians, most of them Chaldeans, fled their homes when IS militants launched a renewed drive in the north in early August.

Iraq's largest Christian town, Qaraqosh, and dozens of other villages were all but emptied in what Christian leaders described as the worst disaster for the minority in centuries.

Peshmerga forces ousted IS militants from four villages west of the Kurdish capital Arbil on Tuesday during fighting in which rockets and mortar rounds were used, a senior officer said.

The villages -- Hassan al-Sham, Syudan, Bahra and Jisr al-Khadhr -- are located in the Nineveh plain region, which lies between Arbil and the main IS hub of Mosul.

The peshmerga, the main security forces of the autonomous Kurdish region of northern Iraq, are receiving arms and ammunition from countries including the United States and France.

A source in the Catholic Chaldean church confirmed to AFP that Kurdish forces had made progress Tuesday.

"The peshmerga managed to liberate several villages, including Hassan al-Sham and Syudan. (IS) militants have now fled from there," the cleric said on condition of anonymity.

He said the villages were important because of their location close to the towns of Bartalla and Qaraqosh.

IS jihadist fighters on June 9 launched an offensive that saw them seize the second city of Mosul and sweep through much of Iraq's Sunni heartland in a matter of days.

In another push in early August, they targeted minority groups, took control of the country's largest dam and moved within striking distance of Arbil.

That prompted Washington to send warplanes back into the skies over Iraq for a bombing campaign to support efforts by Kurdish and federal forces to recapture lost ground.

IS militants have also seized large areas of neighbouring Syria and beheaded three Western hostages, causing an international outcry.

Well the "big bad" Western Powers do make Billions in that part of the world

If these people see IS as their salvation from Arab tyranny then I guess they deserve to be oppressed by despotic leaders.

IS are savages

Savages that prey on the weak and oppressed with promises of grandeur and freedom,so naturally not all the people will support them but they will get a few eventually....they need to be wiped out before they can manipulate those people in those countries(it doesn't take the support of a countries entire population to give IS a base just a couple thousand, for which the rest of the population could suffer),have a look at the propaganda videos they are sending out, they are trying very hard to gain support.

Did you guys read about why these guys seem so calm and collective before being beheaded?

Apparently these savages do these mock executions for months. Before the beheading the person being executed doesn't even know he will be killed after that recording. How sick is that, being taken out daily and you don't know if it's now or not. Wow...

That is sick! Do you have the article link?

That's some nasty stuff :erm:

IS seems to be taunting the 'western powers' with their videos. As if they want a war. These guys are certified psychopaths, getting their thrill for cold blooded murder in the name of some cause.

Alan Henning: British Muslim leaders unite to urge Isis to release UK hostage

More than 100 Muslim leaders today make an unprecedented joint appeal to the kidnappers of Alan Henning to release the aid worker unharmed or commit the “worst condemnable sin” against Islam.

The statement to The Independent has been signed by dozens of Imams from across the UK as well as community leaders and other prominent Muslims. It has been passed on to Mr Henning’s family.

It pleads with those holding the British hostage to accept that he was on a mission to Syria to help innocent civilians and to see the errors of their ways.

“In Islam, concern for fellow humans and the duty to help everyone is a religious obligation,” they write. “Anyone undertaking a humanitarian act is paving his or her way to receive help from heaven.

“In contrast, the senseless kidnapping and despicable threats to Mr Henning cannot be justified.”

Using Koranic references the letter says that if they are true Muslims the kidnappers – including the British man dubbed Jihadi John – must release him “immediately”.

The leaders also express their “horror and revulsion” at the “senseless murder” of the previous three hostages, including the Briton David Haines.

Good to see some Islamic condemnation of ISIS.

The question that I have is why do they have such massive support, their ranks are swelling from all over the world.

Maybe this is a blessing in disguise (all militants flocking to one geographical location).... something to ponder

AUSTRALIA FOILS ISLAMIC STATE 'DEMONSTRATION KILLINGS' PLOT

Australia's largest ever counter-terrorism raids on Thursday detained 15 people and foiled a plot by Islamic State jihadists to conduct "demonstration killings", reportedly including beheading a member of the public on camera.

A major pre-dawn operation was carried out across Sydney and Brisbane by more than 800 officers acting on some 25 search warrants. One person has so far been charged with serious terrorism-related offences and was to appear in court later in the day.

At least one gun was seized.

The raids, which spanned multiple suburbs, came barely a week after Australia boosted the terror threat level to "high" for the first time in a decade on growing concern about militants returning from fighting in Iraq and Syria.

"Police believe that this group that we have executed this operation on today had the intention and had started to carry out planning to commit violent acts here in Australia," federal police chief Andrew Colvin said.

"Those violent acts particularly related to random acts against members of the public."

This prompted comparisons to the murder of British soldier Lee Rigby, who was hacked to death in a random attack on a street in England last year by two Muslim converts.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott said he had been briefed on intelligence that public executions had been ordered by IS militants.

"The exhortations, quite direct exhortations, were coming from an Australian who is apparently quite senior in ISIL to networks of support back in Australia to conduct demonstration killings here in this country," he said.

"So this is not just suspicion, this is intent and that's why the police and security agencies decided to act in the way they have."

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation said court documents were expected to reveal that the plan involved snatching a random member of the public in Sydney, draping them in an Islamic State flag and beheading them on camera.

Asked whether this was the case, Colvin replied: "That allegation will relate to serious violence on a random member of the public here on the streets of NSW (the state of New South Wales).

"Let's let it run its course in court."

The Australian government believes up to 60 Australians are fighting alongside jihadists for Islamic State, while another 100 were actively working to support the movement at home.

"These people, I regret to say, do not hate us for what we do, they hate us for who we are and how we live. That's what makes us a target," said Abbott.

"It's important our police and security organisations be one step ahead of them and this morning they were."

The latest raids followed the arrests of two people last week in Brisbane who were charged with allegedly recruiting, funding and sending jihadist fighters to Syria.

And, on Wednesday, a Sydney-based money transfer business was shut down amid concerns it was being used to funnel funds to the Middle East to finance terrorism.

NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione urged calm.

"Right now is a time for calm. We actually need to let people know that they are safe," he said.

Last week's decision to increase the terror threat level after years on "medium" officially means a "terrorist attack is likely", and comes after repeated government warnings that attacks could happen.

The raising of the threat level was "not based on knowledge of a specific attack plan but rather a body of evidence that points to the increased likelihood of a terrorist attack in Australia", Abbott said at the time.

"Security and intelligence agencies are concerned about the increasing number of Australians working with, connected to, or inspired by terrorist groups such as ISIL (Islamic State), Jabhat Al-Nusrah, and Al-Qaeda," he said.

"The threat they pose has been increasing for more than a year."

The "high" alert is just below "extreme" -- the top level -- which would indicate a "terrorist attack is imminent or has occurred".

OBAMA AND US LAWMAKERS TURN UP HEAT ON IS

Barack Obama and US lawmakers ratcheted up the pressure on the Islamic State Wednesday, with the president declaring there was no hiding place for the jihadists and warning: "Our reach is long."

After Obama spoke at MacDill Air Force Base, the House of Representatives voted 273 to 156 to approve his plan to train and equip moderate Syrian rebels, a key part of his strategy to destroy the IS group.

Obama was keen to project a sternly determined mood at the Florida air base, the headquarters of US Central Command, which oversees military action in the Middle East.

He met military commanders to discuss how to defeat the so-called "Islamic State" group -- a powerful extremist organization -- while keeping America out of another protracted conflict in the Middle East.

Obama has consistently said he will not put US "boots on the ground" despite the IS organization -- which the US estimates has 20,000 to 31,000 fighters -- grabbing vast areas of Iraq and Syria in a offensive that has seen beheadings and forced religious conversions.

Two American reporters and a Briton were executed on camera by a masked IS militant, provoking revulsion and condemnation.

Obama, who last week vowed to "degrade and ultimately destroy" the IS group, stood firm on his pledge that a US combat mission was not in the cards -- but insisted the jihadists would be defeated.

"The American forces that have been deployed to Iraq do not and will not have a combat mission," Obama stressed.

His comments came after America's top officer General Martin Dempsey suggested military advisors might provide counsel to Iraqi troops in "close combat," sparking hand-wringing in Washington about "mission creep."

"Our reach is long. If you threaten America, you will find no safe haven. We will find you eventually," Obama said.

Last week he ordered expanded air strikes against the IS organization in Iraq and said the US was prepared to launch air raids on the militants in neighboring Syria.

He again emphasized the broad-based nature of the US-led coalition to defeat the jihadists, and noted that Saudi Arabia had agreed to host a US mission for training moderate Syrian rebels.

Some 40 countries are backing the coalition to defeat IS, but there was a prominent dissenting voice in the form of Iran, with President Hassan Rouhani criticizing Washington's refusal to send in ground troops.

In Washington, lawmakers voted to authorize the training and arming of vetted Syrian rebels to combat the Islamist radicals, a move Obama hailed as "an important step forward."

Lawmakers backed the president despite the misgivings of war-weary Democrats that the move could open the door to full-blown American intervention and concern from conservatives that the plan falls short of what is needed.

The measure was included as an amendment to a stop-gap federal spending measure which also easily passed the Republican-dominated House.

The overall bill now shifts to the Senate, where leaders are confident it will pass on Thursday and head to the president for his signature.

Expanded air strikes are already turning up the heat on Islamic State fighters, who have declared a "caliphate" straddling Iraq and Syria and claimed leadership of a global anti-Western jihad.

US forces carried out seven air strikes Tuesday and Wednesday in Iraq, Central Command said, using what it called "a mix of fighter, attack and remotely piloted aircraft."

Four of the strikes were southwest of the capital Baghdad, destroying several small IS ground units and a small boat on the Euphrates River that was re-supplying rebel forces in the area.

The US has carried out 174 air strikes in Iraq since early August but the mission has taken US aircraft close to the skies over Baghdad in recent days for the first time.

Meanwhile Western governments are facing an uphill battle trying to squeeze the finances of Islamic State jihadists, as the extremists generate cash from extortion, kidnapping and smuggling of both oil and antiquities in the large area they hold in Syria and Iraq, analysts say.

The combination of local forces and US air power appears to be having some success, apparently forcing top IS leaders to cross the border back into Syria, the organization's main base.

Iraqi military and tribal leaders reported several IS targets were hit in an area just south of Baghdad dubbed the "triangle of death," killing at least four militants on Tuesday.

Fierce fighting also broke out in the Jurf al-Sakhr area just a few dozen kilometers from Baghdad, and renewed clashes Wednesday left at least eight soldiers dead, an officer and an army medic said.

Jurf al-Sakhr is key because it sits on the Euphrates between the major Sunni insurgent bastion of Fallujah, west of Baghdad, and the country's most revered Shiite holy sites south of the capital.

A leader from the local Janabi tribe and an army lieutenant said the government counter-offensive was led by the Golden Brigade, which is widely recognized as the best force in the country.

Critics say it may be the only credible fighting force in what is sometimes derided as "a checkpoint army."

Damned if you do and damned if you don't I guess.

Problem is, you defeat one terror group and another fills the gap. This could go on for a very long time.

The question that I have is why do they have such massive support, their ranks are swelling from all over the world.
Maybe this is a blessing in disguise (all militants flocking to one geographical location).... something to ponder

It appears to be mix of reasons.

Undoing the thoughtless western worlds post WW1 middle east divisions from political to religious.
The old Ottoman Empire was partitioned with absolutley no regard for Religious or Ethnic divisions.
Therefore repartitioning along religious lines makes sense to many.

A caliphate based on religious lines, governed and ruled by faith is the dream of many Muslims, free from western idea's, free from what is deemed as Western "oppression" of their faith.
Oppression is regarded as many forms, adhering to the laws in many western countries, re: dress code, womens rights etc etc, and the many inumerable small nuances of western culture are often viewed as forms of "oppression" of the faith.

In all religions there are also tales of prophecy of the end of times, or the arrival of some or other prophet or event.
The establishment of a caliphate goes towards fulfilling a prophecy of the coming of the "Mahdi" after the fall of violent leaders (despots and dictators).
Foretelling of battles in Syria for the soul of the faithfull, Muslim against Christian. Yadda , yadda etc etc
The common calling card driving the growth of their support.

The violence portrayed is a powerful message, "see what happens to those who do not believe and follow".
Its psychological warfare performed for those areas under attack, and it is guaranteed to instill fear in those who think of opposing them.
It is also powerful propoganda , as it got attention from western countries, and has garnered a response in the form of military action.
Military action that can be seen once again as oppression of the faithfull, oppression of the caliphate, and it all falls neatly into the foretelling of the prophecies.

Prophecy and faith, intermingled and inseperable, a powerful motivator, a dangerous mix, something the west fails at times to understand.

A PUBLIC execution of a random Australian was designed to shock the community, a Sydney court has heard.
Details of the alleged plot have emerged as the first man charged after this morning’s terror raids has appeared in Sydney Local Court on one charge to act in preparation/planning for terrorist attack.

Lawyers for Omarjan Azari, 22, said he would make no application for bail.
Azari is accused of conspiring with Mohammed Ali Baryalei, the most senior Australian involved in Islamic State.
Commonwealth prosecutor Michael Allnutt alleged the plan to commit the act was designed to “shock, horrify, and terrify” the community.
“I don't think I’ve seen much worse,” he said.

“It’s been an immediate reaction to a clear, imperative danger. There is still an enormous amount of material for police to assess.”
Mr Azari’s appearance follows a series of raids across Sydney and Brisbane and allegations of a plot to behead an Australian and upload the act to social media.
The case was adjourned until November 13 and Mr Azari will remain in custody.

While the claims remain unconfirmed, it’s understood the plot involved abducting a random Australian, execute them by beheading in a public place, possibly Martin Place in Sydney’s CBD, and film the act and post on social media.
