The Isuzu Thread

Almost R400k and they can't give you colour coded door handles. I doubt I'll ever understand the double cab market.

If only Isuzu SA specced the KB's as well as they are specced overseas. What I wouldn't give for a nice X-rider with a big, bright touchscreen and climate control.

The look of the X-rider is really growing on me

Isuzu SA must not be dom now. Bring in the MU-X with at least 2 diesel powerplants; 2WD & 4WD options and offer manual & auto options. Don't price it too stupidly.

I haven't spotted that MU-X again since the last sighting outside Alexandria. If it's the same one I saw near George a few weeks back. But I think a SUV brought to SA by Isuzu would sell better than the Chevy Trailblazer.

I think the general populace thinks that Chev only has the Spark, Cruze and Aveo over here as the other models don't sell really well. To an extent perhaps the Utiity and maaaybe the Captiva altthough they aren't really good looking cars and are a bit heavy on fuel as well

Absolutely love the new KB. Just waiting to see what Isuzu's plans are in 2018. Hoping we will get the updated engine that Australia got... Will then try and get a 4x4 LX DC

Isuzu bakkie gets Arctic Truck makeover

Isuzu’s UK division has unleashed a new version of its high-riding AT35 beast, which was developed in conjunction with Arctic Trucks.

Based on the UK-spec D-Max (called the KB in SA), the AT35 gets a lift kit that raises the body by 30mm, and filling those boldly flared wheel arches is a set of black 17-incha alloy wheels wearing 35-inch Nokian Rotiiva all-terrarin tyres.

This Isuzu was engineered for the most gruelling of conditions, but it’s not trying to be a Raptor beater in any sense, as power comes from a new 1.9-litre turbodiesel engine, rated at 121kW and 360Nm.

It’s available in the UK as a double cab only, and buyers do get all the latest creature comforts inside the cabin, including a 17.78cm touchscreen infotainment system that’s compatible with CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as satnav and diamond-stitched leather seats with ‘Arctic Trucks’ embroidery.

At this stage there’s no word on whether Isuzu South Africa will offer the AT35 or anything like it in South Africa, but it certainly would be a good way to kick off the company’s new local era.

Isuzu recently announced its intention to purchase GM’s Struandale plant in Port Elizabeth, as well as the latter’s 30 percent share in Isuzu’s local truck business.

The company recently announced that operations at the local factory had been consolidated to produce only the Isuzu KB range, and the company has sent production managers to the assembly line to ensure that quality had not been compromised during the reorganisation process.

Isuzu and Arctic Trucks unleash new AT35 bakkie!

Isuzu has teamed up with Arctic Trucks to create a new, monster version of its D-Max pick-up – or KB bakkie, as we know it here in South Africa.

Set to launch in the United Kingdom soon, the imposing double-cab is the result of “close technical collaboration” between Isuzu and Arctic Trucks, with the latter essentially re-engineering the former’s familiar bakkie.

Of course, a little over a year ago, we saw something very similar. But this latest example ditches the 2,5-litre oil-burner in favour of the Japanese automaker’s new 1,9-litre turbodiesel engine, which makes 120 kW and 360 N.m.

While the figures aren’t all that impressive on paper, the AT35 does at least boast a 3 500 kg towing capacity (along with a 1 000 kg payload), and also meets Euro 6 emissions standards.

As before, the AT35 features 35-inch rubber wrapped around 17-inch alloys, which (along with a lift-kit) helps to create a claimed ground clearance of 290 mm and an approach angle of 36 degrees.

You’ll also no doubt have noticed the widened wheel-arches (how could you miss them?), and realised that Isuzu and Arctic Trucks will offer all manner of optional off-road extras, from LED light-bars to underbody protection plates.

Isuzu says the latest AT35 will be available as a double-cab only, with a choice of six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmissions. Standard equipment will include keyless entry, a seven-inch touchscreen, DAB radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Audio and satellite navigation. Black alloys will be fitted as standard, while silver versions will be offered as an option.

Other specific Arctic Trucks upgrades, meanwhile, will include tinted windows, a tailgate damper, unique mats, special door sill covers, badges on the instrument panel and logos on the headrests.

The price? Some £37 995 (for either auto or manual), which translates to around R642 468…
