Isuzu D-Max and MU-X gains upgraded service plan

Isuzu South Africa has announced it will be extending the service plan of all D-Max and MU-X models sold new after 1 May 2026.

Isuzu Motors South Africa (IMSA) has announced that the current-generation D-Max and MU-X models sold new from 1 May 2026 will receive a one-year extension on their service plans; lifting the previously offered five years to six years. The service plan distance remains unchanged, at 90 000 km.

IMSA’s service plan extension aims to increase competitiveness in the local bakkie and SUV landscape, while also adding value to buyers who may record lower annual mileages. As a reminder, the new Toyota Hilux and current-generation Fortuner, and updated Ford Ranger and Everest are sold with service plans spanning nine services/90 000 km and six years/90 000 km, respectively. It should also be noted that Isuzu’s upgraded service plan is extended for both commercial and private parties as well.

Buying Used: Isuzu D-Max (2013-2021)

Which one to buy

Prospective buyers are encouraged to opt for a post-2018 D-Max 3.0 D-TEQ LX automatic. Opting for this model secures the superior six-speed automatic transmission and the modernised touchscreen infotainment system. The 3.0-litre engine is essential, as its 380 N.m of torque operates entirely unstressed, and can cover more than 400 000 km without requiring a major mechanical overhaul – as long as you respect the maintenance schedule.

I'm looking at getting a used under 200,000 km well=maintained D-Max at under R150k as a run-around (yes, I'm stingy). The Isuzu 4JJ1 3litre diesel motor is a peach, but it's either not all that popular, or the owners are so happy with it that they refuse to part with it.
So it might have to be a Mitsubishi Triton

Navara? The value element will be high there as well.

Thats the best about 3 litre diesel engines. Gets everthing done under 2000rpm - very stressless engines. 1500-1800rpm sweet spot

2026 Isuzu MU-X lineup gains key upgrades and new entry-level 4×4 model

Including upgraded tech, Isuzu has introduced a new entry-level 4×4 model to the local MU-X lineup. See pricing below…

Following the launch of the updated D-Max and MU-X in May 2026, Isuzu Motors South Africa has added further upgrades to its seven-seater SUV. Key upgrades include additional tech features, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and the addition of a new entry-level 4WD derivative.

The range-topping, Onyx XT is now available with adaptive cruise control with intelligent speed limiter. Traffic sign recognition is also included with the package. USB-C ports have been fitted fore and aft, with the rear compartment also gaining a 150 kW 220 V power socket. ‘Welcome home’ headlamps are equipped as standard across the MU-X model lineup.

In addition to the upgraded spec, Isuzu’s local arm has expanded its MU-X range with the introduction of a new entry-level 4×4 variant, the 1.9TD LS 4WD. The latter model is powered by the Japanese firm’s recently revised 110 kW/350 N.m 1.9-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, exclusively paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Isuzu claims an average fuel consumption of 7.5 L/100 km for this model.

The 1.9TD LS 4WD features 235 mm of ground clearance and a wading depth of 800 mm. The braked and unbraked towing capacities – 750 and 2 100 kg, respectively – remain unchanged from the 1.9-litre 2WD model.

The newly introduced 1.9TD LS 4WD is priced from R789 700, undercutting the 3.0TD LS 4WD – which was previously the most affordable four-wheel-drive MU-X – by R150 000. All models are backed by a five-year/120 000 km warranty and a six-year/90 000 km service plan.
