The people of Kleinfontein, near Pretoria, have vowed that only Afrikaners will be allowed to live in their farming settlement, The Times reported on Wednesday.

Everyone living there, from the security guards at the gate to the gardeners, was Afrikaans, the newspaper reported.

The Gauteng legislature's portfolio committee on community safety was reportedly told last year that black police officers were not being allowed inside the enclave.

Its controlling body's chairman Jan Groenewald told The Times that a resident had to be "an Afrikaner with Voortrekker heritage, a Protestant Christian and abide by the Blood River covenant".

"We do not think in terms of race, we think in terms of culture... [but] you cannot ignore the fact that we have different races. That is the reality," he was quoted as saying.

Its residents included the leaders of several rightwing groups, but they were kept in line by the community's directors, he reportedly said.

"We do not fly the South African flag because [South Africa] is a unitary state -- the reason we find ourselves in this situation."

According to The Times, Groenewald said the community would lobby the Tshwane municipality for the settlement to be declared independent.

"Eventually, the African National Congress government will have to approve what we are doing here."

Merely being white is not nearly enough by these admission requirements. Why do we go on about rascism when we've got more than enough 'culture' and 'religion' to make us hate each other. :(

Government shocked by Kleinfontein

The government expressed dismay on Wednesday that there were still citizens who did not want to integrate into a democratic South Africa.

"This disintegration is extremely disappointing as it perpetuates the ills of the apartheid era," Government Communication and Information System CEO Phumla Williams said.

"Such acts were the main causes of a divided South Africa," she said.

She was reacting to a report in The Times that residents of a settlement on the farm Kleinfontein, near Pretoria, had vowed that only Afrikaners would be allowed to live there.

According to the newspaper, all the settlement's residents, from the security guards at the gate to the gardeners, were Afrikaans.

Williams said all South Africans were governed by the Constitution, which catered for people of all races and religions. She said Kleinfontein residents benefited from government services.

"We strongly discourage them from lobbying for the town to be declared independent from the Tshwane municipality, as this will be contrary to the Constitution of this country."

I say the government should declare the settlement to be independent, set up a border post and refuse them visas passports or id books.

So you wish for a legally enforced apartheid system. How vain.

Kleinfontein has been there for ages.... I wonder why it's only coming up now.... same deal with Oranje. It's nothing new.

This criteria only works for certain races here locally. Like when child rape is justified or many other cultural conveniences are protected which overrides the laws laid down for others "cultures".

They want to be independent, no-one is forcing them, the government will be giving them what they want

And I am 100% SURE they will be happy with it and make a success of it as has been proven many times in history. ;)

Voortrekker heritage, a Protestant Christian = Strange combination, also the Voortrekkers did not act like these oaks.

abide by the Blood River covenant

They have nothing to do with Geloftedag/Dingaansdag.

Nobody knew what actually happened that day except which occurred in the Sarel Cilliers biography. They were attacked by “heidene” non-believers in God as per the religious and cultural believes.

That is why they made the vow:

English: We stand here before the Holy God of heaven and earth, to make a vow to Him that, if He will protect us and give our enemy into our hand, we shall keep this day and date every year as a day of thanksgiving like a Sabbath, and that we shall erect a house to His honour wherever it should please Him, and that we will also tell our children that they should share in that with us in memory for future generations. For the honour of His name will be glorified by giving Him the fame and honour for the victory.

The only thing we know is that they made a prayer to protect the laager from the enemy who is non-believers. This has absolutely nothing to do with this settlement.

They are in fact introducing a rather different Voortrekker perspective in their own vision, which has nothing to do with the Afrikaner upbringing.

Really?
Tell us what a resounding success the bantustans were. Same concept.

Yes look at the Voortrekkers history and then Orania. Who made the Bantustans system fail. Catch a wake up. ;)
