The Lexus RX Thread

Lexus Is Giving Dealers The Three-Row SUV They Already Asked For

Dealers said the RX L was the three-row SUV customers wanted. Now they want something else, with an all-new three-row SUV above the RX L coming.

Get ready for another crossover coming from Lexus. The three-row RX L isn’t enough as Automotive News reports that Lexus will debut a three-row crossover that sits about the RX called the TX.

Over five years ago, Lexus dealers said they had a problem. Customers with families weren’t finding what they wanted in the LX, GX, or NX. And the RX lacked the third row for people that wanted it. With a Toyota Highlander being too common, Lexus customers bugged dealers for a three-row RX. Dealers, in turn, bugged Lexus corporate and Lexus responded by introducing the RX L in 2017.

But that’s not enough, because the third row in the RX sucks. With its 23.5 inches of legroom, it’s nearly unusable save for small kids. A Toyota GR 86 has more rear legroom. So dealers have asked for something else, and Lexus has responded again.

All-new 2023 Lexus RX to be revealed on 1 June

Premium marque's fourth-generation flagship has been redesigned from the ground up and is tipped for PHEV power

The all-new, 2023 Lexus RX will arrive on 1 June as the range-topper for a newly expanded line of SUVs from the premium Japanese marque.

Arriving hot on the heels of the smaller, second-generation Lexus NX and the brand's first bespoke EV, the Lexus RZ 450e, the fourth-generation RX will be heavily upgraded inside and out in a bid to better compete with its all-conquering German rivals, the Audi Q7, BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE.

A preview image released by Lexus suggests the design overhaul is more substantial for the RX than it was for its subtly reshaped NX sibling. Striking new headlight designs, prominent air intakes and a new interpretation of the brand's trademark 'Spindle' grille are among the defining features.

Overall, though, it is likely that Lexus's designers will have pursued a similar evolutionary approach aimed at sustaining the RX's continued popularity (it's the company's most popular model in the US) while emphasising the brand's renewed push to promote the dynamic appeal of its models.

That will be carried over to the interior, where the RX will play host to the latest – and much improved – generation of Lexus's infotainment system, running through a 12.3in touchscreen, while adopting a new driver-focused layout designed according to the 'Takuna' (reins of a horse) ethos.

It is also expected to move onto the latest generation of parent firm Toyota's GA-K architecture, as used by the similarly sized Toyota Highlander, which paves the way for the RX to follow the NX in being offered with plug-in hybrid power, although Lexus has yet to confirm any details of the powertrain.

Lexus RX

Lexus revealed the 5th generation RX, a completely reinvented model, opening a major new chapter for this iconic SUV.

The pioneering RX has become a Lexus bestseller over the last two decades. With more than 3.5 million units sold worldwide since its introduction in 1998 - of which 300,000 in Europe - this 5th generation RX is pivotal to the brand's future 'Lexus Electrified' strategy.

Koji Sato, President of Lexus International: "For the all-new RX we were determined to keep the Lexus DNA of supreme quality, ride comfort and refinement and elevate the driving experience to the next level, delivering a unique Lexus driving signature".

Together with the recently launched NX and newly revealed RZ, RX will help build the 'Next Chapter' of the Lexus brand. These three models represent the strongest offensive yet in the D-E Premium SUV market, the heart of Lexus' business.

Lexus has further developed its new 'Next Chapter' design language for the new RX. This includes a new 'spindle body' that was achieved by integrating the spindle concept into the entire front of the vehicle. The RX team also found inspiration in the rich RX design heritage. The result is a car that is instantly recognisable as RX, but with a more dynamic, elegant and confident character.

2023 Lexus RX Has More Engine Options and Fewer Seats

The RX will no longer be available with the beefy 3.5-liter V6 or a third row of seats.

Lexus revealed the all-new 2023 RX luxury crossover to the cold light of photographers’ cameras today, and it showed up with a brand new design, brand new engines, but fewer seats compared to the previous RX.

Now built on Toyota’s GA-K platform, the RX sports the same underpinnings as the Lexus ES and NX but with updated styling that recalls the Lexus LX. Just as long as the old model but almost 200 pounds lighter, the new platform manages to squeeze in more leg room for rear seat passengers.

This would normally be welcome news to Lexus dealers, who wanted Lexus to put a third row in the RX and ended up with the RX L, with a disappointingly cramped third-row. A little more room in the middle might have helped the RX L, but the new RX will stick to two rows of seats. That being said, Lexus recently announced an SUV above the RX but below the LX: the TX. Dealers will just be able to bump customers up to the new model for that all-important third row.

Back to the 2023 RX. The new model will come in six trims: Standard, Premium, RX Premium+, Luxury, F SPORT Handling and RX F SPORT Performance. All models will use a turbocharged four-cylinder of some sort, replacing the current generation’s 3.5-liter V6 that made as much as 290 hp.

Here’s how the drivetrains break down: The RX 350 will get a 2.4-liter engine alone. The RX 350h gets a hybrid system that integrates the same high-torque 2.5-liter inline-4 engine as the Lexus NX (yes, a different engine from the base 2.4-liter), and the RX 450h+ plug-in hybrid vehicle will get ... something. Lexus is holding the details on that model for a later time.

2022 Lexus RX gets redesign, PHEV and new tech

Lexus rejuvenates flagship SUV with new platform, PHEV option and innovative 4WD

The all-new fourth iteration of the Lexus RX has been completely redesigned inside and out compared with its predecessor and offers the option of plug-in hybrid power for the first time.

The Volvo XC90 rival was Lexus’s most popular vehicle last year, with 221,000 examples sold worldwide, and it has now followed its smaller Lexus NX sibling in swapping over to parent company Toyota’s GA-K platform.

This brings a claimed increase in body rigidity and a low centre of gravity while cutting weight by 90kg from the previous RX, all in the name of improved handling.

Its wheelbase has been extended by 6mm, its roofline lowered by 10mm and its track widened by 15mm at the front and 40mm at the rear, while a refreshed exterior design based on Lexus’s Next Chapter design language emulates the “spindle body” appearance of the new Lexus RZ electric SUV.

Lexus said the RX’s new dimensions give it a “coupé-like feel”, particularly when paired with 21in wheels, and a “confident stance”.

“For the all-new RX, we were determined to keep the Lexus DNA of supreme quality, ride comfort and refinement and elevate the driving experience to the next level, delivering a unique Lexus driving signature,” said company president Koji Sato.

The RX also gets LED headlights with a sleeker design, while range-topping models gain some visual distinction with bespoke designs for the front grille, side skirts and front and rear bumpers.

New Lexus RX Brings Hybrid Style and Tech to the Road

Lexus has unveiled its fifth generation RX crossover and the newcomer boasts new hybrid technology as well as a striking design execution. Take a look at what the new Lexus RX has to offer!

The Lexus RX crossover is a core model for the Japanese luxury car brand and since its inception in 2008, the RX has racked up approximately 3.5 million sales worldwide across 4 generations.

The new RX is built on the firm’s GA-K platform and stands 4 890 mm in length (the same as the outgoing RX) but is 25 mm wider at 1 920 mm and stands some 10 mm lower. Lexus has stretched the RX’s wheelbase by some 60 mm to 2 850 mm. Importantly, the new RX is 90 kg lighter than its predecessor.

For the new RX, Lexus wanted to develop a car that’s not only fun to drive while retaining high levels of refinement but also to transform the design by adopting a “spindle body” that exudes a new look while also providing the necessary cooling of the powertrain.

As for the interior, it follows the human-centered Tazuna concept which aims to create a more meaningful connection between the driver and the vehicle while also providing a comfortable and spacious cabin for passengers.

I am looking at buying a 10 year old Lexus RX450h, and wondering if anyone has experience of the need to replace the Li-Ion battery, and if so, how much it costs?

A Japanese tuner has added much menace to the sensible Lexus RX

WALD turns hybrid Lexus RX SUV into stealth machine with raft of visual updates

The Lexus RX is a sensible hybrid SUV made from a sensible company that trades on cast-iron reliability and technology. And, once upon a time, mad V10-engined supercars, but we digress.

A tuner in Japan known as WALD International has decided what this sensible, comfortable and efficient hybrid SUV needs is a good dose of menace and good dialling back of comfort. The latter we’re totally assuming from the low profile tyres in these new shots.

WALD, which one time modified a Rolls-Royce Cullinan and called it Black Bison to give you some context, has of course done more than insert massive 22in alloys on skinny tyres. There’s a new front spoiler, LED lights, a front duct cover, sidesteps, a new rear skirt and a new set of exhaust tailpipes.
