Also, here is an alert for anyone thinking they will make money in the mining industry:

He also made the eye-opening acknowledgements that the group's long-standing exposure to South Africa would decline...

Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) also issued a statement in which it said it would suspend a number of projects and suffer impairments. Given that Anglo's domestic coal mines were also to be sold, this raised the prospect of South Africa figuring less as a geography in Anglo's overall portfolio.

Said Cutifani: "There’s no doubt that as we restructure, we reduce the activities on a proportional basis in South Africa. But we will articulate more about that in February [during Anglo American's full-year results presentation]".

The time has come for serious investors to pull out of the SA Mining industry. Nothing good will come from this, as the SA government slowly but surely ensures this.

If you want to invest in these groups, you need to get on the London SE and invest there in their holding companies.

Anglo Shares Tumble After Miner Suspends Dividends to Save Cash

Anglo American Plc, one of the world’s biggest mining companies, is shrinking to a fraction of its former size to cope with the collapse in commodity prices.

The company is selling assets, closing mines and will eventually employ 50,000 people, compared with 135,000 now, Chief Executive Officer Mark Cutifani said on a conference call with reporters Tuesday, without giving a time frame. Anglo also scrapped its dividend for the second half of this year and for 2016. The shares slumped as much as 9.9 percent.

Okay, so i dropped my other 1K on trellidoor :) dont even ask why..

Well, that's not very exciting!

On SSS, end of last week I sold half my Growthpoint (2 yrs/no profit) and half my redefine (also about 2 years/ slight profit) and bought SSS. Although I was happy with my past dividends with the two and are very stable, I see SSS giving a bit of capital growth as well as better divided growth going forward. That said, not that unhappy so just sold half of each.

e4et - for a long term play, and a potential 10 bagger (in ten years), my preferance it with Taste. Will take a while though. It's a good one to chuck a bit here and there at and grow a position slowly, IMO

Wonder what government and the unions are about to do or say with all the job cuts on the way from these mining companies? Tens of thousands of people will soon be without work. All I can see is our government suspending mining rights are give them to BRICS country companies. Don't really see any other solutions.

Potential 10 bagger = Discovery

By far the best stock on the JSE regarding future prospects

Simon Brown spoke extensively about SA needing to shift the country away from a mining economy, because the commodity riches of previous generations are no more.

His reason for it is politically correct.

I do believe that there are indeed huge fortunes to be made in the mining industry, just not under the ANC. As long as SA is under ANC leadership these companies will slowly end activities here and move elsewhere. That is the problem.

Not so sure about that - Ping An deal looks interesting though - and it's a share that probably should be in everyones long term portfolio. Aspen as well. own them both in my small portfolio.

Lets put a bottle wine on it?

5 years from now

Don't disappear!

It is strange that it was posted.
However
This advice was offered so maybe a fitting post or am I missing something?

Well unless you havent read Ben Graham then you would know that he would not have advised people to buy Lonmin shares.

So I found it funny you would tell the same people the risks and reasons Graham would not invest in an IPO. . . .

The bottom line is - save your breath in this thread. If it (IPO's) gets mentioned in the other thread then you are welcome to post that much needed warning.
