The LONMIN share price thread

With regards to Lonmin and Platinum in general...long term focus (including new comer exploration mining company Wesizwe )

approach with caution

Many expected the Volkswagen emissions scandal to dampen demand for diesel vehicles and thus reduce the need for platinum, which is used in autocatalysts. However, there was only a slight dip in autocatalyst demand of 5.7% to 785 koz quarter-on-quarter, which WPIC CEO Paul Wilson attributed to a seasonal dip in automotive demand experienced during summer holidays in the northern hemisphere.

In fact, automotive demand was up 6% to 825Koz year-on-year, primarily due to increased usage in light and heavy-duty vehicle autocatalysts. Writes Wilson in the report: “…we do not agree (that the scandal will result in lower demand for platinum). We believe the consequences could include automaker, regulator, and consumer actions that are as likely to lead to increases in automotive uses of platinum in the coming months and years”.

Sitting with 6000 shares here, if the share price hits R1 odd again it'll be tough not to sell considering the risks

Im going to sell my MTN shares, buy Lonmin and then wait for MTN to drop even more, which should be before December 15

Rather not... MTN is considerably safer than Lonmin

That's like taking a stable salary throw it away to pursue a month to month paid job with the hope of being permanently employed

Lol, that is true and sounds like MTN will get SA government assistance sorting out that fine problem.

Another company going to market for capital is Mittal, they have fallen from a high of over R250 to below R5. Also feeling the pain of the resource slump and competition from China

If you bought it at 30c odd maybe worth selling off some shares to reduce your risk
