If the cadaver dogs alerted their handlers to blood or the presence of human remains in the apartment or the rental car, why did that end in nothing? Why no prosecution?
 
Still believe she is alive somewhere.

There was enough time to abduct her, not enough to dispose of her body without trace.

Because 15 out of 19 DNA markers is Positive but not Positive enough for the experts to swear with absolute certainity that the remains were maddies.
Secondly Mists of time let me down but I am sure the Police required a body for a prosecution. Watch Amaral's Truth of the Lie and the reason would be there (re Prosecution)

The blood was from a bloody nose, so its hers but means nothing.

One of two things happened: The parents killed her accidentally and are dragging this out to cover up.
Or she was abducted and then they killed her and dumped the body, she more than likely at the bottom of the sea.

No one is going to keep a high profile hostage like that alive
