Tagging kids with RFID tags when they're a year or so will hopefully be done in the future. That way missing kids can be found immediately.
They only have hope if this girl was kidnapped as a foster child for some rich childless couple somewhere. If she was kidnapped by a mentally disturbed individual or some sort of pedophile, then chances for her return are not as good. We obviously hope for the best. How would that be effective considering the relatively low range of RFID?
Uhuh? And how would that work? Can we extend it to motor cars, 'cos that would put tracker out of business...
/me contemplates an RFID tag for his car keys...
Agree with you 100% but they are working on longer range tags precisely
for the purpose of tracking dangerous persons. I'm not sure if this technology is based exactly on RFID or on shorter wavelengths like say satellite telephony or something else.It would be good to implant these into
children and remove them when the kid becomes an adult. Sure
a kidnapper could kill the victim or remove the implant early on but that would
take a little time and would prevent the average-IQ psychopath from
the current success rates they have.
Kate McCann will be declared a formal suspect in the disappearance of her daughter Madeleine, a family friend has said.
She is said to be "amazed" at the development in the investigation.
Kate to be declared a suspectSky News Crime Correspondent Martin Brunt said: "It's an incredible twist in this long-running story.
"I have spoken to a family friend who said Kate has been told that when she comes back to the police station in a couple of hours she will formally be declared a suspect."
Mrs McCann is expected back at the police station in Portimao at 10.30am.
Sky's correspondent said it doesn't mean that police are close to charging Madeleine's mother.
"The police are doing this so they can ask her a list of 22 questions about the night Madeleine disappeared," Brunt said.
"There are specific questions they need to ask and they can only do that if she is a suspect."
But a family friend said: "They are treating Kate McCann as if she is involved in some way in the death of her daughter."
Madeleine went missing on May 3The McCann family spokesman said: "She is shocked and surprised in several ways. First of all that such an accusation could be made against her.
"And obviously she is concerned that such a line of investigation can become a distraction from further attempts to find Madeleine."
Gerry's brother John McCann said the prospect of Kate becoming a suspect was "unbelievable".
He said: "We just want to see exactly what the Portuguese police are saying
"We cannot believe the line that they are going down - we just find it unbelievable."
Mrs McCann expects to be made an "arguido", a formal suspect, when she returns to the police station following nearly 11 hours of questioning yesterday.
An arguido receives more protection under Portuguese law, including the right to remain silent in formal interviews.
Madeleine's father is due to be re-interviewed at 2pm.
the whole story has been fishy from the start,
Portuguese police have suggested to Kate McCann that traces of her daughter Madeleine's blood were found in a hire car the family leased 25 days after the girl went missing, a family friend said.
Mrs McCann fears she will be charged today over the death of her daughter, after she returned to face further questions from detectives.
Kate is back at police stationMadeleine's mother is back at a Portuguese police station, where she is expected to be declared a formal suspect in the disappearance of her daughter.
A large crowd whistled and shouted as Kate McCann arrived.
She was driven to the police station in Portimao by her family's spokeswoman Justine McGuinness.
Yesterday, she was taken there by her husband, Gerry McCann.
Mrs McCann was greeted by a huge crowd of journalists, locals and holidaymakers, many of them whistling and shouting at her.
One British tourist shouted: "We believe you, Kate." But there were jeers from other people in the crowd.

It is thought Mrs McCann will face questions linked to the DNA tests on samples taken from the family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz.
Brunt said tests have also been carried out on a car the McCanns hired five weeks after Madeleine's disappearance on May 3..
He added Mrs McCann is "horrified to be under suspicion".
The family friend said: "She is shocked and surprised in several ways. First of all that such an accusation could be made against her.

But... if they were guilty, either of murder or of covering up an accident, why the huge, attention-seeking campaign? Surely it would have been safer for them to be grief striken, but allow it pass instead of constantly stirring up the media frenzy?
Red herring?
Red herring?
