There is not the smallest bit of evidence that suggests the McCann's had anything to do with the death / disappearance of their daughter.
As such there is nothing to cover up.

They are both doctors aren't they?
If they did do it, one would think that they might have a bit more expertise when it comes to hiding stuff and cleaning up a crime scene?
But even if they took here somewhere else and killed her, all it involves is three main things.....

1) A disposal area that has not yet been located
2) Destroying the clothing they were wearing at the time
3) Ensuring that they removed her from the flat at a time when there were no witnesses.

But yeah... I don't think it is likely.
If they killed her they would have given up the search a long time ago.
Meanwhile they are pushing to keep the case alive.

What about the cadaver / sniffer dogs? I have to say, the press published so many sensational claims that I found it hard to keep track of what was real evidence and what were just headlines to sell papers. Was it ever OFFICIALLY confirmed that the dogs did pick up a scent in the car / flat?

I think it was confirmed that corpse DNA was found in the car, but that it did not belong to Madeleine. I'm not really 100% sure about the findings. The media circus makes it pretty hard to separate the fact from the fiction.

If they were confident they were successful at covering it up, it would make sense to keep the case alive, though. It's what I would have done if I had done something like that. Hiding in the public eye could be their safest bet from coming under too much scrutiny. It has, after all, only been 6 years. But that's just conjecture on my part again.

I just really hope that this mystery gets solved one day, and for Maddie's sake I hope she's still alive.

Are you saying the DNA from ANOTHER corpse was present in the car? So another person was killed as well ????

Probably just medical samples or human body tissue from their medical equipment.
They are doctors, remember.

They were on holiday in another country. I doubt they carried their equipment with them. Also, neither of them are surgeons.

No evidence found != impossible.

Claiming there's nothing to cover up because no evidence has been found is rather silly. The point of covering up evidence is for nobody to find it. It might just mean they did a stellar job of it. But I'll leave it at that. There's no use arguing 'what ifs' and 'maybes', and I'm not really in the mood for a protracted debate about things nobody can prove anyway.

I think the point is that casting aspersions on people when no evidence exists to do so is equally silly...

Well if it was a hire car then I'm not surprised that unrelated DNA was found in the car.

BTW, what is corpse DNA? I've never heard of DNA tests being able to differentiate between the health of the DNA host at the time of depositing it...

The DNA analysis was inconclusive, and hair samples showed Maddy had not been given any drugs for the previous 8 months.

DJ, I do not think it happens that often that people transport corpses in hire cars (or any other civilian car for that matter) ;)

W.r.t "corpse DNA" - I think the poster meant that a cadaver dog alerted handlers that there was a cadaver in the car at some stage.

That is what I thought the outcome was. If the DNA tested positive as belonging to Madeleine, her parents would have been arrested.

Her parents only rented the car after she went disappeared .......

Correct - they only hired the car 25 days after she went missing.

But it would not be impossible for there to be some DNA transfer from her clothes, toys etc.

The question begging is if it is suggested they transported a body in the car, where had it been for 25 days ?

Sadly not - the scent was picked up by a CADAVER dog.

Again, cadaver scent can be transferred. Transferred from which cadaver, who knows.

There are a million questions and theories - personally I don't believe the parents were in any way responsible for her death or abduction. If anything they are responsible of a degree of neglect, but that is all.

The timeline simply doesn't allow for them to be involved - if she died accidentally they could not have made the body vanish within the time period either.

I believe she was taken from the apartment by an unknown party - if she was treated badly I hope she has passed to a happier place, if she was treated well I hope she is still out there.

What on earth are the odds that someone else transported another cadaver in the hire car? Or came into contact with another cadaver and transferred the scent to the car?? Slim to none. It is not as if the average person just comes across cadavers on a daily basis.

I suspected the parents in the beginning, but now I am not sure. I cannot see someone who killed their own child (accidentally or on purpose) carry one with a media campaign for SIX YEARS. I just cannot accept that guilty people would do that. In the beginning maybe, yes, in order to deflect attention away from themselves and onto a shadowy and mysterious "suspect", but after that, I would think they would try to keep as low a profile as possible.

I vaguely remember Kate mentioning that she had dealings with dead bodies before coming on holiday and that could be what the dogs smelt too.

That's what I said. They are doctors. Of course they are going to be exposed to dead bodies frequently.
