A lot of the behaviour by Madeleine's parents was just downright odd .... but as the other posters said, hopefully the riddle will be solved one day.

reading the posts by Hosehead it also seems that the family are bucking the system. they could in fact have committed the perfect crime by using the law to their advantage and then after the evidence is lost or enough water has run under the bridge, they turn around and say well maybe we should have trusted the dogs to do their thing but............

Or they are just doing what their lawyer tells them.

As the poll suggests the majority think they did it - so it's a case of damned if they speak, damned if they don't.

Are you then suggesting that (maybe) they admitted a crime to their lawyer and this was his legal advice to them? Because if they told their lawyer they are innocent of any wrongdoing, I cannot imagine why he'd tell them to act in this strange way .......................

No, I'm just suggesting their lawyer told them to say nothing because what they say could be misinterpreted, taken out of context etc etc.

Unless they are under arrest they really don't need to say anything I guess. It doesn't mean they have anything to hide - same as the polygraph which they were never asked to take.

Yes, indeed, but I cannot fathom that when your own flesh and blood is missing and you are innocent, you'd give a damn about yourself and how you may appear to investigators.

what they tell their lawyer is confidential even if they lied to them.

Jip.

You'd be surprised the secrets that lawyers carry around :)

not sure i follow but if you are trying to say that they would automatically assume abduction because of children going missing THEN WHY LEAVE THE APARTMENT UNLOCKED WITH 3 BABIES INSIDE WHILST YOU SUIP IT UP 100M AWAY FROM THEM?
I haven't followed this story too closely, but at the early stages of the investigation when it became known that the parents left their babies alone to go suiping well out of earshot and sight, I smelt a rat.
I was surprised that the media and police didn't grill them about that - that IMO makes them culpable.

correct, so instead of drawing attention to that fact they cry abduction and end up being the victims. very clever and sneaky.

British police identify new leads in hunt for Madeleine McCann and urge Portuguese to

http://www.standard.co.uk/news/crim...ccann-and-urge-portuguese-to-act-8620704.html

Scotland Yard has identified a number of potential suspects who may have abducted Madeleine McCann, the force’s top detective revealed today.

Investigators carrying out a review of the case have drawn up a list of people who they say are “of interest” to the inquiry.

Detective Chief Superintendent Hamish Campbell, the head of Scotland Yard’s Homicide and Serious Crime Command, said there were a “good number” of individuals who should be questioned.

Today he urged the Portuguese authorities to investigate the new leads identified by the British review.

DCS Campbell, speaking on the eve of his retirement from the Met, said: “There are a lot of people of interest. There are people who could be properly explored further, if only to be eliminated.”

He refused to give numbers but said there was “more than a handful” of names of “people of interest”.

Madeleine was nearly four when she went missing from her family’s holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in Portugal in 2007 as her parents Kate and Gerry McCann dined with friends near-by.

The official Portuguese inquiry was shelved in 2008 but Scotland Yard launched a review of the case in 2011 after David Cameron responded to a plea from Madeleine’s parents.

Last year the review team led by Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood said it had identified 195 potential leads after examining a huge bundle of material.

Today DCS Campbell said the 30-strong review squad had done a “fantastic” job in identifying “further investigative and forensic opportunities.”

He said it was “perfectly probable” that information which could identify the suspect responsible for Madeleine’s disappearance was already within the Portuguese files.

He added: “We have to ask ourselves why are cases unsolved and, on many occasions, we find we passed the suspects by already and the suspect sits within our system.”

DCS Campbell said there were a “good number” of people who could be interviewed and eliminated to allow investigators to focus on a smaller group.

Detectives from the Yard’s team have travelled to Portugal around 10 times to liaise with the authorities there and gather evidence in an inquiry which has cost more than £2 million.

So far, Portugal’s attorney general has ruled out a new inquiry into Madeleine’s disappearance but the comments from the senior Yard detective will raise hopes of a fresh investigation.

DCS Campbell said: “The Portuguese hopefully will pursue some of these investigative opportunities with our assistance. There is room for further work and collaboration to resolve the case.”

He re-iterated a claim that Madeleine could still be alive. He said: “You only have to look at the case in Cleveland, Ohio, and the European cases. Of course, there is a possibility she is alive, you cannot exclude it. But the key is to investigate the case and, alive or dead, we should be able to try and discern what happened.”

He added: “The purpose of the review is to look at it with fresh eyes…there has been real benefit in doing it.”

Madeleine McCann News: Missing Girl 'Spotted In America'

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/201...-spotted-america_n_3377989.html?utm_hp_ref=uk

An alleged sighting of Madeleine McCann has been reported in the United States.

Madeleine was nearly four when she went missing on May 3, 2007, during a family holiday in Portugal.

Now an unnamed woman has come forward to say she informed the authorities of her sighting in May 2009, but was only contacted when she reported it again two months ago.

The woman exclusively told The Sun she believes she saw the little girl in a Spanish restaurant in Montgomery County, Maryland, accompanied by a blonde woman and two men – one of whom was “scruffy-looking with a foreign accent.”

She said: “I saw this little blonde girl looking just like Maddie. I’ve never felt so strongly about something.”

There have been numerous sightings of Madeleine, who would now be ten, throughout the years.

Her parents Gerry and Kate insist the search for her is very much ongoing and have praised the British police's continuing efforts to find their daughter.

In 2007 photos of a blonde child being carried in a sling by a woman in Morocco prompted excited speculation Madeleine had been found. It soon emerged the little girl - named Bushra Binhisa - was the daughter of an olive farmer of Berber extraction.

In July a British woman spotted a youngster “bearing a remarkable likeness to Madeleine” at a market in the northern Indian town of Leh.

There have also been reported sightings in Cyprus, Portugal, Belgium and France, but none have produced any firm leads.

In February a DNA sample from a young girl in New Zealand who had been mistaken for the missing child was sent to Scotland Yard.

It was later confirmed the voluntarily provided sample did not provide a match.

Hopefully some day she will reappear, healthy and be re-united with her parents.

There is just so many unanswered questions and I would hate to be the parents if they are innocent.

I had my doubts about their innocence, but I cannot fathom how someone who was complicit in their daughter's disappearance or death could sustain media interest for all these years.

If you had something to hide, you want as little media attention as possible.

I dont think this girl in America is Maddie. I bet there will be sightings like this on and off for the next decade or so.

If you had something to hide, you want as little media attention as possible.

Because the easiest place to hide is right in the Public eye. Bang the Drums all the time at every opportunity... Look at the recent killing of Tia Sharp and the early media appearances of her killer Stuart Hazell. A natural actor, pleading for her to come home knowing she was dead by his own hands...except there were too many clues left to her discovery. Now Superimpose the Mccanns over Stuart Hazell and get rid of all possible clues. Too easy isn't it. But I've always said Cadaver dogs don't lie.

Anyway why is this news? There have been thousands of sightings and there will be several thousand more.
