1-0 to Derby FT

Poor result, even for the B team. Should easily turn them over at OT in 2 weeks' time though. Not that it matters.

I couldn't care less. It's a dumb cup and I'm dumbfounded as to why they are still playing in it.

Well you could see from the starting lineup just how much Fergie cares about it :p

Still, another two decent performances and we win another trophy.

Relieved Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson admitted his side were lucky to escape with a 1-0 Carling Cup defeat at Derby on Wednesday night.

United slid to a shock reverse against the Championship outfit in the first leg of their semi-final.

It gives United a major job to complete at Old Trafford in a fortnight if they are to book a final appearance - almost certainly against Tottenham - at Wembley on March 1.

But, as far as Ferguson is concerned, at least United can still get there, Derby's wastefulness offering a reprieve the Scot is certain his side will take full advantage of.

"We could have lost by more," admitted Ferguson.

"We were lucky. We were so bad that Derby will rue the fact they didn't score more.

"In any semi final you hope to give yourself that breathing space.

"But we expect to recover a 1-0 deficit against anyone at Old Trafford and I am sure we will."

Ferguson acknowledged Nigel Clough's presence may also have been a major influence even though the new Derby boss was only watching from the Pride Park stands.

"It happens so many times historically, there is no rhyme or reason to it," he said.

"A few years ago we played West Ham and Alan Curbishley had just taken over and they beat us 1-0. It is a strange thing."

Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick came off the bench for United, although it was youngsters Darron Gibson and Daniel Welbeck who received most praise and an assurance over their place for the decider.

"The young lads did well," said Ferguson.

"Darron Gibson was one of our best players and he deserves his place. The younger ones will play again."

Fergie admits we were lucky not to have lost by more.

And I don't agree with him at all about Welbeck or Gibson to be honest. But at least he is sticking to giving the youngsters a chance. It is the perfect cup to do that in.

I think Welbeck is good but he can only do things if he gets the ball. Our midfield was terrible last night and hence Welbeck didn't get any balls.

Nani and Anderson were particularly poor. But then there's nothing new there.
I can't wait to see what this new Serbian midfielder can do in nani's place :D

Maybe you should give Nani more time?
lol still laughing how their tune has changed about nani and anderson.
From we dont know what we talking about HE NEEDS MORE TIME!!!

To his crap.....

hahahahah

Same here :D

Pages and pages of debates saying he has the potential to take over from Ronaldo - the classic ''Remember how Ronaldo was when he came to United'' :D

Nani just needs more time.

I'm in no way a Man United fan, far from it, in fact hate them to bits for obvious reasons but feel the criticism of Anderson and Nani on this forum is beyond belief. Here are two youngsters who clearly have potential playing for a big club with many top class players and hardly get enough playing time to settle in the side yet get written off so early in their career.

Ok I'll admit that they have had plenty time to settle in the premiership and therefore should show their class by now but that is not always the case. Let's not forget that they are squad players and do not get in the team regularly, in fact they were bought as squad players that would play now and then and at the same time mature and develop into first team players once the current first team players leave/retire or sustain major injuries.

Why not give them that chance and who's to say that when they are given more responsibility (as in regular first team player) that they won't up their game and become top class players. They clearly have the potential.

but in Genius and SupaSta's eyes they believe these two players should NEVER EVER TOUCH a soccer ball.. they make great bench warmers.

maybe they just man utd haters...

I don't see them ragging Robbie Keane about his performaces at liverpool... I don't see them tuning Pennant grief about his self valuation yet if they were man utd players you'll never hear the end of it... I'm surprised they haven't bombarded Berbatov yet...

Ronaldo involved in Ferrari crash

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has written off his Ferrari in a crash near Manchester Airport.

The 23-year-old winger was driving the sports car through a tunnel beneath the runways when he smashed into a barrier.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said his team-mate Edwin van der Sar was following in his Bentley, but the Dutch stopper was not involved in the crash.

Ronaldo was not injured in the accident, which happened on the A538 Altrincham Road at about 1020 GMT.

One lane of the road has been closed while the debris is removed.

A GMP spokesman said an investigation into the crash, which happened between Wilmslow and Hale, Cheshire, was under way.

He was obviously shaken - who wouldn't be? - but it's a shame about the car as well.

Police said the Portuguese international gave a negative breath test to officers at the scene.

Manchester United have confirmed that Ronaldo is fine and is training with the club.

Onlooker Jody Lomax was driving behind Ronaldo when the crash happened.

"The Ferrari went straight into the wall, his front left-hand wheel came off and then Ronaldo got out of the car," he said.

"I was shocked. Anyway he was all right, he was walking - he was a bit shaken."

Mr Lomax added: "Obviously I was stunned at seeing a Ferrari go in the wall and seeing Ronaldo.

"He was obviously shaken - who wouldn't be? - but it's a shame about the car as well."

Nani played 1565 minutes of first team football last season. How much more "time" does he need?

His a crap player and I can see it in his 1565mins or in 10 mins he spends on the pitch. What we seeing now is as good as its going to get.

@fishfly, about your comment "I don't see them ragging Robbie Keane about his performaces at liverpool"

Stop making excuses for Keane. He has been a flop. Are you implying that his goal against Arsenal is making him worth all that money?

If a club were to spend big in the transfer window, the player would need to perform and thats the bottom line.
