It does seem as if United are struggling to score goals. With the talent up front, you would expect them to be scoring goals for fun.

I wonder if Inter will pose a threat to United, we all know how Italian teams can defend.

We did fine in midfield and defence, however we looked sorely lacking upfront. It's all good and well getting yourself into good positions, however capitalising on those is where we have been lacking all season and we showed that again last night. We could easily have walked in to half time 3-0 up. We went 90 minutes against Wigan without scoring again which is dismal if you consider the quality we have upfront. My gripe all season so far has been capitalising on creating chances. Ronaldo didn't (he scuffed many a shot), Tevez certainly didn't and should have scored twice imo and Berbatov didn't either. As world class strikers they should be making the most of the opportunities they are presented with which they are struggling to do. Many of our recent goals have come from headers and tap ins which is indicative of our strikers' inability to convert opportunities into goals.

Think about it this way - if we hadn't scored within the first minute, that game would have been a draw. Not acceptable in my opinion...

Understand what you're saying and agree to a large degree, but if we hadn't scored in the 1st minute, the match would've been different (every event would've been different from there onward). Perhaps the 1 goal cushion was enough for them to mess around with, whereas if it was 0 - 0, they would've played with more urgency.

Our last 9 league results.

Stoke (H) 5-0
Villa (A) 0-0
CIty (A) 1-0
Sunderland (H) 1-0
Spurs (A) 0-0
Stoke (A) 1-0
Boro (A) 1-0
Chelsea (H) 3-0
Wigan (H) 1-0

13 goals scored and 0 conceded. I know we are not scoring all the opportunities we should be and the scoreline often does not reflect our dominance.
I just think all these clean sheets are the perfect foundation for the final push to the title. Now, we just need a few more goals. Which will come. :)

I agree.

Like we did against Derby?

You could tell we were pushing for goals - the finishing and execution was dismal though. There was a lot of miscommunication with the passes as well - in particular with Berbatov. It was as if he's been skipping training.

My major issue is the finishing though. Berbatov scuffed two sitters; Tevez tried to walk a goal in and cocked it up; Ronaldo had more shots on goal than fouls against him for a change and couldn't get a single one on target; Scholes tried blasting everything and everything with the force of a nuclear explosion and only served to have each and every shot blocked etc. Against Wigan that was OK, however we cannot expect to continue like that against the bigger teams. We have to be converting those chances on a more regular basis. Right now Man U is in the running for EPL, CL, FA Cup and Carling Cup - but if we continue to scuff chances like we have been, then all of those opportunities will mean nothing. We cannot do that against the likes of Inter, AC Milan, Chelsea (which we did but they played awfully), Arsenal, Barcelona etc. We have to be converting those chances into goals if we expect to win those types of matches.

Do you honestly think we would have beaten any of those teams with a performance like we put in last night? I say no. Now should we be able to start converting our chances into goals more regularly, well then we stand a much better chance. Our forwards need a kick up the backside right now.

I have to take my hat off to Nemanja Vidic though - my Man U player of the season so far!!

Look, I agree that we are not putting away our chances but things will get better. Last night's game was one of the few times this season where it looked like we were back to our normal selves again. We will get better, as we usually do this time of the season. I think Berbatov needs to be more greedy and devilish in front of goal. It seems he just wants to set everyone up but never shoots for goal. Tevez hardly gets a game and Rooney... eish, I dunno.

Well, consistency is what it takes to win the league at least and 9 clean sheets in a row certainly shows that.

I am not scared to face any team right now, after what we did to Chelsea (even though they played crap, to a certain extent we didn't allow them to play much better).

Only time will tell, but right now we are looking good.

Also, the B team that played against Derby was awful, but so is that competition :o Still time to turn it around in the second leg at OT...

Yeah but Materazzi will get a red card as always...

Only person I'm nervous about is Ibrahimovic BUT he either plays extremely well or just disappears into the background. Lets hope for the latter :)

Do you think they way United are playing now they will be able to knock Juventus, Barcelona or Inter out of the CL?

I dont see united beating Inter, as there are still question marks raised when they play weak sides in the EPL.

Will be a good game for sure though.

Are some United fans scared to face Inter?

Honest answer?

No, I'm fervent enough a supporter to believe that United will step up to the plate when necessary...

No. However if United play to even their minimal potential, I believe they will run a mock of the other European teams. On paper the United team is fantastic and I doubt many could argue that with a straight face, however they haven't fired on all cylinders. When they do, they will become the formidable opponent of other European teams...

If you United play to their minimal potential they will be embarresed in Europe. They need to step up in order to be a worthy opponent. I have no doubt they will step up.

The fact is, if they dont step up the bigger teams will run circles around them.

Real Champions can grind out results when they are not at their best (which is what we've done). When we are at or close to our best we can wipe out teams with classy ease (which is what we've done). I'm not worried about Inter or any EPL team....only United;)

+1

That has already been the difference in the league this season. Liverpool have been poor, and then only managed to draw 0-0, whereas we have won those games 1-0. That is how you become champions.

Where was that classy ease last season when you beat Barcelona?

United were shi**ting bricks!

at which point in time did you see that? i dont remember any clear chance barcelona had over both games. i paniced more over the blackburn game than i did over both games against barca

Where we didn't concede a goal over 180 minutes of football?

Ya, the one when you had one attacking chance that resulted in a goal and then you decided to park the bus in front of goal.

It was the first time i have ever seen United being dominated at Old Trafford like that. United only had 26% ball possession.

What team can have a clear chance if you park 11 players in front of the box. Negative football.

All is done tho, United won - congrats to them. New season, new results :D

I can guarentee you, if United must face Barca and they are playing the way they are at the moment. Barca will CRUSH them.
