Amazing, Chelsea beat a team that Man U could only do so on penalties, and all of a sudden they paid off the keeper.

Typical Man U supporters, the excuse bag is nice and full hey?

Huh? Who said anything about that? Who could United only beat on penalties? What's going on?

Anelka 2nd goal - I could have mistaken james for a Ballerina
Deco 4th goal - I could have mistaken james for my grandmother.

Something didnt seem right with him on the day.

Im not taking away the brilliant football played by Chelsea though.

Im surprised nobody is talking about David James performance against Chelsea. I really think Roman had something to do with this.
He is always amazing against United, saving unbelievable shots, but with Chelsea, he played like an amateur. Something wasnt right.

There

I see. I think the comments were made in jest to be honest.

James and Pompey did have a really bad game but Chelsea performed well and deserved the win.

Just don't get too excited one game into the season ;)

I'm not but give credit where its due. They played with only their central defenders in their own half, the full backs pushed right up, making it an almost 7 man midfield, choking Portsmouth properly, which United could not do in their game. 69% possession, speaks volumes for the way they played.

Really good attacking play, hopefully can maintain for the season.

Yip. Wait until United also have their full squad, and BBT and perhaps even Santa Cruz, then we shall see. :)

Last season United's goal difference was the highest in the history of the Premiership, for those who missed it ;)

And hopefully this season Chelsea will beat it ;)

HenryJ, contribute in the Chelsea thread, your opinions are valued.

At least we know Brazil are KO of the Olympics, and Anderson can return to produce some magic.

United Keep Huntelaar In Mind
20/08/2008 16:04

Steve Michaels, Goal.com

El Mundo Deportivo reports that Ajax star Klaas-Jan Huntelaar remains on the agenda at Manchester United, at least as a backup option. Should they fail to land Dimitar Berbatov then the Dutchman could be subject to an approach...

It is thought that Tottenham Hotspur have rejected a recent bid from United for Berbatov, who is commonly regarded as the Red Devils' number one target this summer.

With €32m apparently not being enough for the Lilywhites, United may soon take their interest elsewhere, and that could be in the direction of the Dutch capital.

Ajax, no stranger to selling their top talents, may accept a bid of slightly under €30m for their international striker, who has a great admirer in the form of United boss Alex Ferguson.

MD additionally reports that, should Ferguson make his interest concrete, a "war" could be on the cards. Real Madrid have made it clear in the past that they too are fans of Huntelaar, and if they do not make a move this summer certainly they would at least consider it next year.

As such if United make a formal offer, Madrid could potentially follow, reawakening the ugly scenes of "Ronaldogate." That said, Madrid are currently preoccupied with the fate of Robinho, to whom they are trying to offer a new contract.

Juande Ramos wants Dimitar Berbatov's future settled - so he can move for Diego Forlan and Roque Santa Cruz
By Martin Lipton 20/08/2008

Spurs boss Juande Ramos wants the Dimitar Berbatov saga to end this week - so he can buy Diego Forlan and Roque Santa Cruz.

Ramos has decided Berbatov's imminent exit will clear the air at White Hart Lane and allow him to bring in the strikers he needs.

The Spaniard has been tracking former Manchester United frontman Forlan for the past month and is ready to offer Atletico Madrid £14million for the Uruguayan.

Forlan has claimed he is happy in Spain but Atletico have privately placed a £17million price-tag around his neck, suggesting Ramos may get his man.

And the Tottenham chief is also hoping to step up his interest in Paraguayan striker Santa Cruz despite Blackburn insisting the South American will not join the Ewood Park exodus.

Santa Cruz scored 23 goals in his first season in English football and with Darren Bent's impressive pre-season form disappearing under the scrutiny of England assistant manager Franco Baldini at Middlesbrough on Saturday Ramos is increasingly determined to land his man.

The money will come from the sale of Berbatov, with White Hart Lane chairman Daniel Levy remaining determined to hold out for at least £30m before he will let the want away Bulgarian complete his "dream" move to United.

But Tottenham remain furious at their attempts to force a cut-price deal.
