Vidic clarifies comments made in interview

Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has sought to clarify comments attributed to him as disliking the English lifestyle and Manchester weather, saying that an interview with a Russian magazine had either been taken out of context or misquoted.

On a statement released on the club's website, the Vidic admitted discussing how difficult he found it adapting to life in England when he first joined from Spartak Moscow in January 2006. He admitted struggling with a new language and culture which contrasted with that of Russia or his native Serbia.

Yet he denied he had ever said: 'In Manchester the main attraction is a timetable at the railway station where trains leave for less rainy cities!

'In England people don't have time to feel the joy of life. Throughout the week they work so hard. They only talk to people at lunch. Then in the evening they watch TV so they can get up early for work the next day.'

The 26-year-old said: 'I'd like to clarify that I did not make these particular remarks. I spoke about the difficulty I had settling in to life in Manchester, but that does not reflect how I feel now.

'I enjoy my life very much as a footballer at Manchester United and I'm very happy to be a part of this great club. I think I show that in the way I play every week. I also have far too much respect for the people of Manchester, and England, to criticise them in this way.'

Neither Vidic nor United chose to remark on other comments attributed to him that stated he aspired to spending some of his later career in Spain.

lol I dont think they do, they coming up against one of the strongest teams in La liga and against celtic who beat them last time round.
Its going to be tough for them to get out of that group.

Meanwhile Ferguson less optimistic about BBT:

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted that Dimitar Berbatov's potential move to Manchester United could have hit a snag by revealing he was 'less optimistic' about new signings.

The Bulgarian was benched last weekend at Boro, and did not make the squad for the defeat to Sunderalnd.

The Bulgarian has made it clear that he would like a move to Old Trafford, but Tottenham are determined that their £30m price-tag will be met.

With just four days until the transfer window closes, Berbatov's future remains uncertain and his hopes of a switch to United look to have taken a blow with Ferguson appearing frustrated with negotiations.

'I'm less optimistic, so we'll carry on,' Ferguson said.

'I've no idea what's going on. It's very hard to get communication with some people in life.'

It is understood that Berbatov's agent Emil Danchev is in London for talks with Spurs manager Juande Ramos and chairman Daniel Levy in a bid to thrash out the striker's future, while the 27-year-old was left out of the squad for Saturday's defeat by Sunderland with Ramos claiming the player was not focused enough.

Meanwhile, United striker Wayne Rooney would love to see another striker arrive at the club as they look to defend their double from last season, but admitted that the squad could manage without.

'There's been a lot of talk about bringing a new forward in to strengthen the side and that would be a good move,' he said.

'But if we don't get someone in, then I'm sure we can cope with that.'

Just pay the damn 5 mill already!

'If we don't get someone, I am sure we will cope?!" I am not so sure...

I think it is at nine SA time. Should be fun. What money on Fletcher to score again from a low cross from the left? :)

Cool :)
Here's how Fletcher will score:

He will run across goal hoping and praying for someone to pass to him, he will trip over a defender's legs and fall face first into the ground, the ball will accidentally bounce off his head and into the opposition's net :o

Exactly. I read somewhere that they are now asking for 32mill.
