Milan targeting £35m swoop for Evans and Vidic?

AC Milan are reported to be considering an audacious £35m joint summer bid for Manchester United defenders Nemanja Vidic and Jonny Evans.

Both players have played a key role in United's impressive defensive record this season which has already provided the foundation for success in the Carling Cup and FIFA's Club World Cup and could yet garner more trophies in the Champions League, Premier League and the FA Cup.

The reports suggest a value of £20m for Serbian central defender Vidic and price right-back Evans at £15m.

While the Daily Mail cite reports from Italy claiming that 27-year-old Vidic has held a secret dinner meeting with Milan defender Paolo Maldini, at which a top agent was also present, the Belfast Telegraph claims that 21-year-old Northern Ireland youngster Evans is also being tracked by Real Madrid.

Vidic joined United for £7m from Spartak Moscow three years ago and has gone on to become one of the most consistent defenders in the Premier League, while Evans has progressed through the Old Trafford youth system and although not yet entirely established as first team regular is one of the club's brightest defensive prospects alongside Brazilian brothers Fabio and Rafael da Silva.

While United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to rebuff any approach for two such important members of his squad of more immediate frustration will be that the potentially unsettling claim have surfaced just days before a crucial Champions League tie.

After drawing the first leg 0-0 at the San Siro, United host Inter Milan at Old Trafford on Wednesday in what is a delicately balanced second leg of their Champions League last 16 tie.

lol there's no way in HELL would AF let Vidic go for a measly 20mill... IMHO he's valuation at this point in time should be around 100mill if ronaldo's deal is that why shouldn't defenders get the same? oh wait I forgot no one like a defender to win anything...

WHAT? ronaldo's 1 season performance commands 100million? ***a's performance also commands 100million? so WHAT'S SO WRONG FOR A DEFENDER TO BE SOLD AT THAT PRICE? so I guess you just like everyone else and their theory of "he's still just a defender!" Defenders work just as hard as strikers...

ok take Evra for instance... he's left back yet he attacks with a vigor and defends for his life... why shouldn't he get similar pay or praise?
 
His primary objective is to defend. That is what he is paid to do.

His attacking ability is no where near the best attackers in the world.

The reality is that attacking players influence the game more than defenders.

It balances out at the end of the day cos there careers are much shorter than defenders.

Don't agree at all.

Look at Madrid when they sold Maka. They had the best attacking players in the world and they failed. No solidity at the back is a sure fire way of failing. It's an oft asked question, but bears repeating - would Zidane have shined for France if Maka wasn't there to clean up after him? An attacker is much less likely to pull off some funky **** if he fears his defence will not cope with any balls lost (which will invariably happen, no matter how good the attacker).

So you think defenders influence the game more than attackers?

Every player has a role to play in the team but attacking players are more sort after than defenders, thats just how it is.

Afterall clean sheets dont win games, GOALS do!
