Mourinho 'assault' investigated

Police are investigating an allegation of common assault against Jose Mourinho following a Champions League tie.

It has been alleged the Inter Milan manager punched a supporter as he left Old Trafford stadium after his team's defeat by Manchester United.

Police have contacted United to request CCTV footage of the area and have confirmed a complaint has been made.

A spokesman for Manchester United confirmed they are aware of the allegation but made no further comment.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "Just before midnight on Wednesday 11 March 2009 a man reported he'd been punched in the face outside Old Trafford.

"Police are investigating this common assault allegation. Inquiries are ongoing."

Inter Deny Jose Mourinho Punch Allegations - Report

Sky Sport Italia have reported that sources at the club denied the allegations. The Italian sports tv channel claim a number of club figures, who were with Mourinho as he boarded the bus, have revealed the coach did not confront or hit anyone.

Inter have not released any official statement regarding the incident, but Sky Sport Italia seem certain that the coach was not involved in any fight. A live television report from one of the channel's reporters at Inter's Appiano Gentile training ground has confirmed he spoke to club officials, who were quick to rubbish the reports from England.

At least Mourinho was gracious in defeat, admitting that we were the better side over both legs.

Again, as with Barca last year, if you cannot score a single goal over 180 minutes of football home and away then you do not deserve to go through.

Using a tactic of parking the bus in front of your goal for 180mins does not make man-u the "better side" in football terms, such as in the manu v barca games.

Very anti-football if anything but the correct choice by the manager, when you know you were not able to compete playing "normal" football tactics.

As argued ad nauseum above, that was not the case. It does not matter what tactics the opposition employ - if you cannot score in 180 minutes of football, you do not deserve to go through. Simple.

But thanks for your input ;)

United can both attack an defend - as the need arises - there is no "normal" football tactic, only the one where the better team wins; day in, day out. Stop with that misplaced notion of yours...

lol If I remember correctly at one point in the match it was 85% possession for Barca!
The fact manchester parks all their players in the box to try and win a match doesn't mean they "deserve" to go through as those type of tactics are what is wrong in the game today.

But at the end of the day they won, fair enough and I take it as a compliment that they were scared of trying to attack a barca team which at the time was one of our worse teams due to injury/disputes.
