The man who created Spur

I know this forum often tends to denigrate the joys of the common man (and I know it's just a thinly veiled attempt to portray ourselves as fancier than we really are) but I will not hear one word against a restaurant that will consistently deliver cold beer, chicken strips, ice cream, and a break from the spawn of your loins.

Pfft, they lost me when they stopped serving snails on their menu...... fscking heathens.

Nope.. I have standards... I started the drinking session with a plate of snails and then didn't feel so dirty being in a lowly kommin Spur. :P

Ahhh now that explains everything to me.
All the meat tastes exactly the same from burger patty to steak including ribs.

So now seeing the German side it's explained because they all wanted blond hair and blue eyes but I didn't know about the meat.

Anyhow well done much respect.
 
I had the privilege to meet him at the 1st store. Very down to earth man.

Also, that store had better service than any of the franchise stores I have visited.
 
Sounds like the Spurs where some of you eat are bad.
I have been to plenty, and the food and my kid's play are always good.
 
We all have memories of how great Spur was and great times we spend there.
Unfortunately 30+ years ago there was not so many other restaurants and take-away places and Spur food was something nice and special.
These days we are used to it and nothing special about Spur anymore. Also with more competition they have less customers so prices is going up to survive. And now they just overpriced for NOTHING SPECIAL.
 
I've always enjoyed a Spur burger and defended the place to everyone and anyone. But now the patty sizes have reduced so much that the product has been severely compromised, I hardly ever visit. There's just more bun than burger now.

Shrinkflation really is the most stupid business logic ever.
 
if you got small kids you still stuck with spur...when they get older you can safely say goodbye to that high prices and average food... our kids loved playing there though...

you can even see the parents who need a break just breathing while their kids are playing...suppose that is priceless to them...
 
Pretty darn clever for it's time.

By the early 1980s, he sensed a shift occurring in South Africa and wanted to send a positive signal to people of colour in the country that they were welcome at Spur.

He knew that choosing a local tribe wouldn’t go over well with white people at the time, but he found that using Native American imagery, a culture which he deeply admired, was widely accepted by the public.
