The man who created Spur

I don't mind spur on occasion. Was great when kids where younger. Steak quality is a bit hit and miss and I prefer the local Hussar Grill for steak but Spur is a decent family option and has stood the test of time in SA. I gt that it is not everyone's preference but I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon.

I still like me some Spur... their bacon and cheese burgers are among the best in the Country. And their steaks on a sizzling hot plate or skillet are still tasty and reasonable. I know it's fashionable to hate on Spur these days (dunno why everyone wants to jump on that bandwagon), but I have my loyalty card and enjoy free R50 vouchers every time I go there.

Spur is one of the most expensive overrated resturants around but if you have young kids you are trapped in the Spur prison for years..

I saw a few guys taking their girlfriends to Spur. They have good play areas.

Everything seems expensive to me these days.
I am probably getting old and have memories of the older cheaper prices.

What restaurants are better and less expensive these days?

I can tell that you don't go out much or frequent many restaurants, if you think Spur is expensive...
Well the expensive is not only about the price. Its what you get for that price.
Steak, Chicken or Pork all taste the same, drenched in that sweet basting sauce, not bad not good. Spur Calamari is probably the worst in the country. I can buy better tasting calamari at Checkers.
Spur also in not a fancy, upmarket looking restaurant. Just some 80's cowboy atmosphere. Only people the price is worth the atmosphere and food quality is people with small kids.
We have many independent restaurants around us that either have cheaper prices for the same atmosphere or quality food. Or have the same prices but better food and looks more classy inside.

You're a lying liar who lies. They've rebranded it last year already.

There steaks are bascially the same price as any upmarket steak house but the qualty is way worse, maybe not expensive just not great value.

Que?
Chargrilled Rump 200g
Juicy and perfectly prepared.
149.90
175 200g SIRLOIN
All more expensive. Sure Hennies is cheaper but you have to deal with a pub vibe and afrikaans music.

The price you pay for things at Spur vs the value you get for the price are out of kilter.

I'd make rather pay 20% more at a place like Hussar Grill (same damn company) and get considerably better quality.

I love Spur (as a father), as many mentioned. Get a cold draft, some wings and steak, and a bit of peace from the spawn.

If the time allowed it, I would go daily .

Spur has evolved from 80's cowboy themes to 90's cowboy themes. Soon we'll see the Brokeback Mountain theme.
