The 'Massive' Gauteng Weather and Storm Warning Thread! The Sequel

Fairly calm storm out Norwood / Houghton way, or maybe we're too used to it by now to notice.

Think it just finished

I guess count our blessings, Sri Lanka declared a state of emergency re floods and Indonesia also in trouble.

It has 60 gates?! Imagine what that would do lower down the river.
All 60 sluices at the Vaal Dam were opened for the first and only time in history in February 1975, during a period of massive flooding. During this event, approximately 4,000 cubic meters of water per second (cumecs) thundered downstream, raising the normal water level by around 9.5 meters in some areas. This historic flood event led to the dam wall being raised in 1985 to its current height, increasing its overall capacity to better manage future floods.

There are trees marked at Abrahamsrust with that 1975 flood water line. Amazing how high the water went from the river
Just a FYI, the name has recently been changed to The View on Vaal Resort.

Shucks, we got off very lightly here in JHB north :(
Was quite hectic in the Northriding side, crossing over to Wilgeheuwel it was a bit rough as well and an hour later gone and clear again.
Now it's no wonder my pool only gets a few days usage in summer
