Has Cape Town Mayor Dan Plato joined the notorious blue-light gang so reviled by his party, the Democratic Alliance?

He's not too sure.

Cape Town motorist Nolan Moss says he saw the mayor's car speeding on the N1 with a blue-light escort "glued" to the back of the car.

Moss said a Prius with registration plate CA 1 overtook him on the N1 near the N7 turn-off at about 7.20am on Tuesday, while he was travelling at about 90km/h.

The car was doing "at least 140km/h", he said. "The speed limit on that stretch is 80km/h. A bakkie with blue lights was glued to the Prius's backside."

Plato said on Wednesday: "I don't know what speed the vehicle was travelling. I wasn't driving, my driver was. I'll have to check with him."

Asked whether the blue lights were switched on, Plato said he did not know as he did not check behind him.

When asked why the escort was travelling behind his silver Prius, Plato said it was "standard". He said he did not know whether the blue lights had been flashing.

"I adhere to all traffic laws and the driver has to as well."

His spokeswoman, Rulleska Singh, said the mayor had been on his way to inspect the newly reopened Vaatjie Primary School near Atlantis. The inspection was to begin at 8am.

Singh said "concern" had been raised about the use of blue lights on vehicles escorting the mayor.

"The mayor's office must make it clear that these blue lights are never used to facilitate any kind of speeding."

Asked whether he had been late for the meeting, the mayor responded: "I got there well within time."

So let's get this straight. The mayor was in his car, but had no idea of how fast he was travelling. The police escort had it's blue lights on but he never noticed.
FFS, was he drunk or asleep?

The DA are the first to throw stones when the ANC fat-cats do this. Just look at how Mayor Plato reacts. As I said before, politicians are all the same. The only difference is how they spin it.

WTF, a Prius cant even do 140km/h :D

This just smacks of sour grapes .

Well apparently he got their way ahead of schedule. Something is not right about this story.
 
This Dan Plato guy sounds like he would fit in better at the ANC...

I think you've over-used that old response. You obviously can't accept criticism of the DA or any part of it. Smacks of an ANC attitude actually, which is ironic ...
If Plato or someone had an excuse, then why not give a proper one. Pleading ignorance just makes him look foolish.

Actually it's you that's overusing that excuse. Perhaps if you can control yourself, others won't bring it up?

What about innocent until proven guilty sackboy?... the article is full of conjecture and allegations, no actual facts AT all.

Possibly not the best of arguments here, seeing as AIDS shower boy Zooma hasn't been found guilty of fraud and corruption, and we all know the truth there.

Another example being O J Simpson.
 
He may not have been found guilty in his own case...

But Shaik was found having a generally corrupt relationship with Zuma...
BUT I think these two incidents are somewhat different in scale and impact. What we have here is a SINGLE citizen alleging that Dan Plato was in a Blue Light brigade... Shaik was found guilty of having a corrupt relationship with Zuma, amongst others.
