The Mazda CX-5 Thread

May it treat you well and looking forward to feedback as you clock up more mileage.

I would expect the diesel model fuel consumption to be in the high/low 6 figures.
Heard though that the torque is addictive.

It is very torquey. I usually get around 6.4L on long drives but not as loaded as your car for sure.

One issue, well technically two issues, are the folding wing mirrors. They will break and will need to be replaced.

I recently bought a low km CX-5 2.2 AWD diesel, it's been a dream so far - currently on 45000km. Definitely worth it for the mountain of extra torque! (in my opinion)
Recently did a trip to Cape Town and averaged around 7.5 l/100 which wasn't as good as I was hoping, however the car was fully packed with 5 adults & luggage.
It's more than I'm getting with my iX.

I've had 2 CX-5,s a 2.0 and a 2.5. I kept both for just on 2 years each.

Here were my findings:

2.0
-Economical but coming from a turbocharged vehicle I found myself driving flat out all the time.
-Mechanically and electronically bullet proof. I had 0 problems from any electrical and engine system.
-Very comfortable to drive, and sat well on the road.
-Not great for towing and when 3 people are in it going to KZN it was rather heavy on fuel, probably the 2.0 trying to move us around with not much torque.

2.5
-Definitely more power but still required a relatively heavy foot to harness it. These things are crying out desperately for a Turbo
-Not as economical as the 2.0 (but faster and more torque)
-Again mechanical and electronics were amazing, not a even a slight problem - just works perfectly every time.
-Better with a car full of passengers on long journeys but it still liked to rev high, i guess its the nature of the engine.

What I will say, is the Mazda Infotainment system with its scroll wheel is just the best thing ever especially to use while driving. I now have a luxury german SUV that costs far more than the Mazda with a "touch" screen interface and it feels like a major downgrade compared to the Mazda's system.

But how much of a game changer would a turbo be! I would have definitely opted for the petrol version if we got the turbo variant, even if the 2L was turbo charged

This here.^

Was like waiting for Godot...

Ended up spending 2x what I should have on the only other petrol turbocharged Japanese alternative.

I suppose once warranty expires you could always bolt on a small turbo

The slow car keeps me out of trouble.

Cannot say that it didn't cross my mind when test driving the slightly anemic 2.5 at Reef altitude.

I believe Mazda SA's hesitation to bring the turbo 2.5 here is unwarranted.
If it can run perfectly fine on dusty Aussie outback roads with lower than premium grade fuel it would be just fine over here. Perhaps the fact that it would likely test the >R 700k mark when new is an issue for the segment they're targeting, but I for one would have settled for the 2.5T at RRP, no questions asked.

Mazda CX-5 update revealed with design and drive select software change

The Mazda CX-5 has been given a minor update for 2022 which includes a number of styling revisions and features. This facelift comes four years after the generation was introduced to the global market.

New to the updated Mazda CX-5 the brand’s next generation of Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture which, as per the brand’s claims, provides improvements to the crossover’s bodyshell, suspension and seats to enhance ride comfort and reduce fatigue.

The front of the Mazda CX-5 features a new three-dimensional grille and signature wing design. Both head- and taillamp clusters have also been restyled. Within the European markets, the Japanese crossover introduces three new trim levels that boast different styling cues.

Kicking off the range is the Newground trim which boasts silver underguard-style treatment to the front and rear bumpers and door garnishes, black door mirrors and lime green accents to the front grille. This model can be had with 17-inch silver or 19-inch black diamond-cut alloy wheels while the interior is kitted out with suede upholstery with lime green stitching.

The Sport Black trim offers a gloss black finish to the front grille, signature wing, lower bumper sections, wheel arches, door garnishes and door mirrors. 19-inch alloy wheels are finished in black metallic paint, and the front grille incorporates red accents. Red stitching trims the black leather seats, steering wheel, gear shift lever and door panels.

The flagship GT Sport trim combines a single-colour exterior that is complemented by a brilliant gloss paint of the bright silver 19-inch alloy wheels. The interior features Nappa leather upholstery supported by genuine woodgrain trimmings.

Key safety features included in the cabin of the Mazda CX-5 update consist of a wireless Qi phone charging tray in the centre console. The two-piece, reversible loadspace floorboard and the tailgate sill are on the same level to aid loading. Newground models also feature a floorboard with a water-resistant side for wet or dirty items.

Mazda CX-5 gets a makeover for 2022

The Mazda CX-5 has been given a makeover for 2022, with the midsize SUV gaining new tech as well as a fresh look.

Although nothing has changed radically in terms of the overall look, the 2022 Mazda CX-5 does gain a new and more three-dimensional grille as well as restyled headlights and taillights, while a new exterior colour debuts in the form of Zircon Sand.

The overseas line-up sees the addition of three new model grades, although we’ll have to wait until its South African debut to see if there are any local specification changes.

But the changes are more than skin deep as Mazda has incorporated elements of its next-generation Skyactiv vehicle architecture, with enhancements to the structure, suspension and seats all aiming to improve comfort and refinement. Mazda also claims to have greatly reduced road noise, particularly on rough surfaces such as gravel.

2022 Mazda CX-5 buyers can also look forward to a new Mazda Intelligent Drive system, which allows drivers to select the most appropriate drive mode with one touch of a switch.

Mazda CX-5 Updated for 2022

Mazda has given its popular CX-5 SUV a mild update for 2022. Here’s what changed.

The CX-5 is a stylish and competent family SUV. With formidable rivals like the Volkswagen Tiguan, Hyundai Tucson, and the Toyota RAV4, the CX-5’s latest updates have to be good.

Visually, the updated CX-5 gets a revised headlight cluster that now features rectangular LED lights and a new-look front grille.

Inside, there are some trim material updates with woodgrain and Nappa leather, while the cabin has been enhanced ergonomically with redesigned seats and a new drive select switch.

Under the skin, the 6-speed automatic transmission has been updated to be more responsive and deliver smoother acceleration. The suspension has been enhanced to reduce vibrations and road noise. All-wheel drive is now standard across the range, which will please those who enjoy driving off-tar and provide additional stability in slippery conditions.

The international lineup has changed with the 2.5-litre turbocharged model replacing the base derivatives. We’re waiting for comments from Mazda South Africa whether this update applies to SA-spec CX-5 models.

2022 Mazda CX-5 improves refinement and specification levels

Toyota RAV4 rival gains design updates, Mazda’s Mi-Drive and wireless phone charging

Just nine months after updating the CX-5 range with a new petrol engine and upgraded infotainment, Mazda has given its Toyota RAV4 rival a visual refresh and a series of dynamic tweaks for 2022.

Due on sale in Europe early next year, the latest version of the CX-5 is marked out by a new, “more three-dimensional” grille with a chunkier chrome surround, a reshaped front bumper and fresh light designs at each end.

The revised CX-5 gains Mazda's Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture, which, the firm says, will "further evolve the bodyshell, suspension and seats to enhance ride comfort and reduce fatigue," reducing road noise on rough surfaces.

The 2022 model also receives new technology, with the introduction of Mazda’s Mi-Drive for drive mode selection, four-wheel drive on some models and an off-road mode.

Three new specification levels are available, each with bespoke styling. The entry-level Newground is equipped with a silver underguard, front and rear bumpers and door garnishes. The model also receives black door mirrors, lime green detailing on the front grille and a choice of 17in or 19in wheels. Inside, Newground models receive suede upholstery and lime green stitching.

Mazda’s rear-wheel drive straight-six CX-5 could arrive next year

Mazda’s upcoming rear-wheel drive straight-six SUV could be making its official appearance as soon as next year according to an international report. It’s not yet clear whether this will be a next-generation CX-5 or be an entirely new model.

According to Drive, Mazda’s Australian managing director Vinesh Bhindi confirmed “We anticipate the arrival of new generation, large platform SUVs arriving in 2022.”

The identity of this new model isn’t clear but the large platform has already been confirmed to be a rear-wheel drive one that houses a straight-six engine paired to a 48-volt mild hybrid system. Certain rumours suggest that this can be a next-generation CX-5 but other reports have been saying that this car could even be badged as the CX-50.

We can also expect this platform to be used on the next-generation Mazda6 as well as the larger CX-8 and CX-9 offerings. The publication suggests that a coupe-styled version, as seen with the CX-4, could be in the works as well for a global market release.

According to a recent report, Bhindi confirmed this during a presentation recently. “Mazda continues to invest in high-efficiency combustion engines, with Skyactiv-X, and the new generation straight-six engine family that will power our new-generation large-platform products, which is CX-5 and above,” Bhindi told Australian media.

I am curious to know what spec level are we getting in S.A with the release of the facelift.

So good changes and i see they have removed the front led fog lights.

New leaked pics don’t show fog lights.. where the they move it to?

Edit: looks like it’s gotten very small.
