The Mazda CX-5 Thread

That RAV4 deal on paper looks proper, that is the top spec full house you don't see come up too often.

I never liked the look of that gen personally but that is a moot point.

Others can "joke" about WBC & all but I would personally give it serious consideration.

Yeah the distance is not ideal on paper it looks like a solid deal.

Maybe use the this service for full peace of mind:

Tbh that looks pretty good if it was at your local WBC to check it out, but the long distance thing sucks as you really should check the body out for accident damage with a mechanic that knows what to look for since the Dekra report says "The body of the vehicle shows considerable damages and/or corrosion and/or dents and scratches and/or signs of substandard repair work""
my guys checked it over... its a few dings and scratches on the fenders...

parking lot stuff... must have been a tannie or an ouma's car... it hasnt done much Kms per year

Even something like this means some care was taken.

i always check if all 4 tires is the same. and its also not cheap tires

my guys mechanic was impressed, asked him if he would buy the car. he said if he had the bucks, yes. and he said it very confidently.

I told them 195
they said no
i said ok, all the best to you

Transport costs or flights would have pushed it way over budget... is what it is...

back to the CX5

And from a forum perspective, back on Topic :)

the ball is now in the salesmans court

not gonna chase him... if he wants my money then he must earn it... havent heard from him since saturday... tbh... im disappointed

we'll see

to throw a spanner in the works... theres also this https://www.webuycars.co.za/buy-a-car/Toyota/RAV 4/C2B206475

Have an acquaintance in PE (sorry GHHHEBEEEERGGHHAH) that is willing to check it out today with his mechanic. On the face of it, this looks like a really good deal. Depends on what WBC will charge to send it to me. Might just give them a number and say its cash, u want it or not.

Anyone had experience negotiating with terrorists? oops i mean WBC?

I guess we have a race on our hands...

@FiestaST @bennyblanco @Kung Fu Porkchop tagged y'all cos you liked the update
Would give this Rav4 a skip - it is also the pre facelift model and just looks extremely old and tired.

FSH and it being a Toyota makes is a "safer" purchase from WBC - it is manufactured in Japan (vin starting with J) which is always better as new Ravs are from Thailand.

I love Toyotas but for me the risk factor with them is not worth it. CX-5 2.0 NA maybe slow at altitude (Wife's car and she does not care, infact she thinks its fast lol) but i feel a bit happier knowing that my wife is not driving a moving target.

TBH, i would buy it. everything on paper checks out and i had a mechanic personally check it out. but the budget is the budget... me and the minister of finance have an agreement. call it what you want but there are lots of 2nd hand cars out there... and not many cash buyers. supply and demand

The sales guys from WBC though were basic bitches. on the call they were like:

ME: "i can pay XXX"
WBC sales guy: "let me talk to my manager"
ME : "ok put him on"
Manager: "you better hurry up sir because theres other ppl here to come see the car, you might not get it"
ME: "ok switch to video call let me see"
Manager: (switches to video call)
ME: "err, your shop is empty brother. Wheres the ppl ?"
Manager: "look here, the sticker of the car is flickering, that means someone is reserving it"
ME: "yes thats me im on the car website, but i told you what price i can pay, so change the price and i will reserve now"
Manager: "if you want it you must pay the price"
ME: "listen, my money is ready, and you dont have other buyers."
Manager: "no we just got the car, you must hurry sir it wont be here long"
ME: "dude, i read the dekra report, it was assessed in april, you sitting on this car for 3 months, dont try your luck with basic sales tactics. lets make a deal"
Manager: "sorry sir we have to talk to the managers"

after "talking to the managers" they send me voice notes basically saying that the price is the price, if u want it pay the price if u dont want to pay the price then dont pay.

I respond with "Thanks for your efforts. all the best"

Yesterday the sales guy calls me to tell me the car will be discounted on friday :cautious:
but he mos knows what my offer is...

Seems they dont want my money.

Would you open to something like this in your price range? My cuz had the same gen & it treated them well (as to be expected).

I would legit throw my money at something like this but I don't really like SUV's (generally) & my Civic runs like a dream

New Mazda CX-5 confirmed for South Africa in 2026: first local details released

Hot on the heels of its global debut earlier this month, Mazda South Africa has confirmed the local launch timing and other details about the third-generation CX-5.

The newly redesigned SUV will hit our shores during the second half of 2026, although final launch dates are still pending, Mazda SA’s marketing head Deolinda Da Costa revealed.

She also confirmed that local versions will be powered by a 2.5-litre normally aspirated petrol engine. In overseas markets, this motor produces 132kW and 252Nm, pairing up with a six-speed automatic gearbox.

Although pricing will only be confirmed closer to launch, the presumed discontinuation of the current 2.0-litre engine and the third-generation vehicle’s larger size - with overall length growing by 115mm - are likely to push it upmarket. The current CX-5 costs between R570,500 and R688,400.

Da Costa also confirmed that mild hybrid versions could follow at a later date, but initially, the company would focus on the “robust” regular 2.5L engine as it aligns with local driving preferences and conditions.

““The next-generation CX-5 marks a significant milestone for Mazda globally. While we look forward to introducing it locally, we’re equally committed to delivering outstanding value and features with our current lineup.”

Thanks...

CRVs were on the list. I'm well aware of Honda's excellent reliability record.

The car needs to do a 250km round trip (dorpie to city and back) of langpad comfortably at least once a week. on occasion it might be more.

for this purpose and for longevity of mechanicals, as well as long term running costs, I do prefer a bigger motor, that wont have to work hard for those runs.
So for the CRV i looked at a 2.4 instead of the 2.0 (same for the Rav and CRV, which both offer 2.0 variants).
Compared to the Rav and the Cx5 the Honda is a thirsty one.

Call me old school but "no replacement for displacement" does apply here.... especially if i intend to keep the car for a long time. And NA vs Turbo/Turbo Diesel is easier on the pocket for the long term vs any fuel saved (Service costs and potential repair costs, these are older cars after all)

Or am i missing the mark on my assessment of my needs and the proposed tools for the job?

If you looking for any of these 3 (Rav , CX-5 or CRV), i personally dont think displacement makes much of a difference in terms of long term reliability for these cars. All 3 of these cars 2.0 engines will go to 500k km easy peasy so dont let that rule out some good deals.

I hear you... Personally wouldn't touch a 2.0 Rav... 1st prize is actually a 2.2 D4D (The only diesel that i would consider)

I hear that the Mazda 2.0s should be ok here in the WC, maybe not so much at the reef. Maybe the same is true for the Honda's as well.

So back on topic. I decided to email Mazda directly and request the history. Wrote them a stern email about the delay and the non-response from Mazda Somerset West.

Heres where things get interesting. I got an email back from customer care.

They sent me a screenshot that shows services up to 60K (2018), that is despite the books showing services from 75K to 135K at Mazda Somerset West.... very interesting.

The screenshot does show repairs done and claimed by the dealer upto 2021... so if thats there why not the services ?

data issue at Mazda ? or what?

Could be they have the records of all services under service plan - Those are paid for by Mazda SA hence they would have the records.

Maybe just call a different dealer and give them the VIN. They generally dont have an issue with this and i literally did this last year when we bought one.

thanks, good to know... i sent them pics of the books and asked them to clarify the discrepancy...

Would rather hear it from mazda for my peace of mind...

the only unknown then is the 3 unaccounted for services... thats where the salesman must earn his commission.

So anyways... I bought the RAV :)

Was not happy with the 2 missing services on the CX5 - my research- the miller cycle engines MUST be maintained as per the schedule. I wasnt willing to take the chance.

As for the RAV... service books were confirmed by Toyota... an email to Culemborg/Cape City Toyota was all it took.

Car went on Auction for the right price. Minister of Finance approved the tender. The only thing needing solving was getting the car from PE to the WC.

On Sunday evening, we jumped on a bus to PE. Arrived before opening time. Even met random dude doing the same thing... He was going to look at a landrover he reserved. The bus ride was actually not bad tbh.

Got to WBC before opening time. at 9 AM they let us in.

There wasnt a need for a test drive, but we did one anyways... car is stronk like bool!

Paperwork, fill up and off we were.

Drove to George, spent the night, and hit the road again yesterday and got home around 5 ... lekker adventure. Stopped along the way to smell the roses etc. and a proper test drive (800 odd Kms). Did i mention Stronk like bool ?

used a tank of fuel

Very happy, Alhamdulillah.
