The Mazda MX-5 Thread

Do I see a Z4 at the back? Top down isnt much fun in traffic, cant sing out loud and stuff

No S2000 taking part, therefore your statement is invalid.

I remember watching a head to head of the MX5 and GT86 a while back, short ratios of the MX5 make it a potent force. Would probably have it over the GT86 despite the excessive body roll.

True; no S2k but one cannot exactly go a Honda dealer & purchase one...

True about the MX-5; one cannot dismiss it....interesting to see how much Mazda SA are bringing them into SA.

I did. ;) (off the used car floor)

MX5 also has top-down motoring in it's favour, what's the local price tag?

Nothing announced yet; official local launch is Nov.

Ah, bummer. If it's cheaper than the GT86 we've got a fight on our hands.

Having driven many GT86s (and one back to back with my S) I'm keen to get behind the wheel of one of these and see how it compares.

The current one costs ~R50k more so I doubt it... :(

Beautiful, just like the first MX-5 this one has that whole eat-s2000-for-breakfast thing going. I love it.

What the hell is going on with Mazda, I want pretty much all of their newer cars. They've really cracked the redesign in all of their cars, and it was well needed.

"Pricing is yet to be confirmed but Mazda SA says we can bank on just under R400 000. Not bad considering we’ll only get the high-grade model locally, which comes standard with Bose sound with headrest speakers, leather, Bluetooth connections, and the aforementioned touchscreen display."

"Its tail can be put out into a powerslide if you’re forceful with steering and throttle, but there’s not quite enough gusto at the rear wheels to keep it there. It’s still reasonably brisk in a straight line, and at our test track it scored a best 0-100km/h time of 7.9 seconds and covered the quarter-mile in 15.7. What’s important here is that it’s quicker (by half a second) than Toyota’s more powerful but heavier 86 coupé in both of our tests."

Think this will sell well at the price point they seem to be aiming at....

Neat, price is not too bad either.

Let's not forget S2000 beating performance. Yes sir

Trolololol, go back to playing with Fazda. ;)

Purely for the record (and to inform noobs that might actually take Roux's comment seriously), S2000 does sub 7 seconds to 100km/h up in Gauteng. Also my personal best at Tarlton was 15.2 (and that's with me launching delicately to save the diff).

Still, I'm all for it selling really well! Gives me more meat to pick on (the GT86 drivers don't want to play with me anymore).

Bro, they call it MX-5 for a reason. It can do sub 5 seconds to 100km/h. It's in the name.
