The Mercedes-Benz C-Class Thread

This is your first look at the new Mercedes C-Class and its light-up grille

Merc gives us a surprise glimpse at a C-Class saloon with its new family face

Just a few days ago, BMW gave us a small surprise by bringing its upcoming i3 saloon along to the launch of its Neue Klasse iX3 SUV.

So, not to be outdone, just before it took the wraps off its new all-electric GLC at the Munich motor show on Sunday evening, Mercedes gave us a glimpse of its new C-Class. Almost like there’s some kind of competition going on, isn’t it?

Anyway, from this shadowy image we can see that the new C will get the large, illuminated grille of the GLC. We can also see… well, not much else. Still a three-box saloon though.

Of course, Merc boss Ola Källenius did recently tell TG that the company was set to launch 18 new models in 2026 alone, so we’d imagine this C-Class will be part of that offensive. The fifth-generation car was introduced in 2021, so it's due a facelift at any moment now.

All-Electric Mercedes-Benz C-Class Teased

Mercedes-Benz has teased the recently-unveiled all-electric GLC’s sedan sibling, the C-Class with EQ Technology. Here’s what we know so far.

Following the release of several teaser images, Mercedes-Benz officially unveiled the all-electric GLC (or GLC with EQ Technology, to use its full name) at IAA Mobility 2025. Now, with the reveal of an emissions-free version of the German marque’s best-selling SUV, a fair bet would have been that a C-Class with EQ Technology is waiting in the wings. Well, Mercedes-Benz has now released a teaser image of the upcoming battery-powered C-Class.

The Stuttgart automaker has remained tight-lipped about specifics, though. However, a fair bet would be that the new-energy C-Class will share the GLC with EQ Technology’s 800 V electric architecture, which includes a 94 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The company has revealed the emissions-free operating range, though – 800 km on the WLTP cycle, which is 87 km more than its tall-riding stablemate.

2026 Mercedes C-Class EV to rival new BMW i3 with 497-mile range

C-Class EQ to lead Mercedes' line-up expansion with GLC EQ underpinnings

Mercedes-Benz is preparing to expand its line-up from next year with the introduction of the electric-powered C-Class EQ.

The all-new model, which will be twinned with the recently revealed GLC EQ, will sit alongside a facelifted version of the combustion-engined C-Class.

The electric C-Class will be the main rival for BMW’s new electric 3 Series, the i3, which is due on the market at around the same time and with comparable specifications.

Like the GLC, the new C-Class will adopt the German brand’s new ‘Iconic Grille’ design that is being used as a differentiator between ICE and EV models as Mercedes moves away from the distinctive stylings of the first-generation EQ-badged electric models. Each model will wear its own bespoke interpretation of the grille, and Mercedes previewed the C-Class’s design at the Munich motor show.

Mercedes-Benz SA slashes C-Class prices

Mercedes-Benz South Africa has slashed the prices of its locally built C-Class sedan, with the most drastic drop coming in at a considerable R122 079…

- Price cuts for all C200 and C220d variants
- Reductions range from R86 970 to R122 079
- Mercedes-AMG C43 and C63 S not included

Mercedes-Benz South Africa has quietly slashed the prices of its mainstream C-Class range – a line-up that is, of course, produced in East London – repositioning both the petrol-powered C200 and the turbodiesel C220d versions of its locally built W206-series sedan.

The news comes after the German brand reduced the list prices of every variant in its wide range of models – except the fully electric vehicles, that is – back in April 2025. However, these latest C-Class price cuts are deeper still (big thanks to the folks at duoporta.com for helping us work through the numbers!).

Yes, the C200 Avantgarde’s price has been dropped by a whopping R99 863, from R1 040 519 to R940 656, meaning the C-Class portfolio again sports a sub-R1-million starting price. The C200 AMG Line, meanwhile, costs a significant R86 970 less than before, with its sticker price falling from R1 095 919 to R1 008 949.

But it’s the C220d Avantgarde that sees the most drastic price drop, with a R122 079 reduction meaning its starting price has fallen from R1 106 502 to R984 423. Finally, the C220d AMG Line has had its price slashed by a considerable R98 354, decreasing from R1 161 902 to R1 063 548.

C220d AMG Line R1 161 902 R1 063 548 -R98 354

The prices above include a 2-year/unlimited kilometre warranty and a 5-year/100 000 km maintenance plan (which Mercedes-Benz SA says the buyer “shall be entitled to exclude from the purchase”).

Mercedes-Benz C-Class gets significant price cut in South Africa

Mercedes-Benz South Africa is facing a few headwinds at the moment. Not only has it lost ground in local sales, but US tariffs have significantly impacted production volumes at its East London plant, where it produces the C-Class sedan.

Rather than sit on its hands, MBSA has decided to take action with a more aggressive pricing strategy on its locally-produced sedan.

While it is quite rightfully a premium product, some local buyers have taken exception to the million-rand-plus price tag of the latest generation sedan, and it doesn’t help that the market has gravitated towards SUVs, while luxurious Chinese cars now flood the market at much lower prices.

In a bid to make the C-Class more competitive, the company has dropped pricing on its core models.

As reported by Cars.co.za, the price of the Mercedes C200 base model has dropped by a shade under R100,000, with the sedan now retailing at R940,646, according to Duoporta data.

The C220d now also comes in under the R1 million psychological barrier with its new list price of R984,423, representing a saving of R122,000.

This brings pricing far closer to its key rival from Bavaria, with the BMW 320i currently costing from R913,731 and the 320d starting at R960,877.

The move is also likely to leave the imported Mercedes CLA out in the cold as the price gap between that and the C-Class is now just R40,000.
