Not elitist just maybe purists. The 1 base drum was just a joke, I do like a metal band that also only use 1 bass drum. The other vid was just not metal at all and irrelevant to this thread. My fav 1 bass drum metal:

Gonna be the guy who bursts your bubble now: the vast majority of metal only uses a single kick drum - but with a double pedal. A 2nd kick is hella expensive.

Lies. The fast majority of known metal bands use a double bass. 1 Bass drum with 2 pedals just do not cut it in terms of the drum skin resonance, sound, and playability. I have played many years like this (1 drum 2 pedals) but could never match a double bass. The few times I got to play on a double bass proved to me that it is much better. In fact I know hundreds of metal bands and all of them use double bass. Empyrium is the only metal band I know that use a single bass drum and they also only use 1 pedal cause they know 2 pedals on 1 drum is kak.

You have the most dumb**** definition of what a metal band is that I have ever come across in my 25 years of listening to metal.

Known, maybe, but the vast majority of metal bands aren't known. Especially if they're tru and kvlt. And if they're out touring, they tend to play small clubs, not stadia, which physically don't have space for elaborate drum kits on their tiny stages.

Edir: forgot to add that having a second bass drum does nothing for sound (and hasn't for at least a couple of decades) because 99.9% of metal makes use of drum triggers for the kicks. A double bass setup is usually for show, not sound.

Edit 2: also, Doom Metal.

I am sure you have the scientific stats for your claims. Did you actually do a study about this that can support your facts? Anyway you should also go chill it was a joke. Maybe if all these noob metal bands had a double bass they won`t be so unknown. Metal does not compromise.

You really think that having a second kick drum is what makes one band better than another? When one kick with a double pedal does exactly the same thing as two kicks with a pedal each, because all kicks are triggered anyway?

It's all down to who's sitting on the throne at the end of the day, anyway, not how many kicks they're using. I doubt George Kollias would be a worse drummer, or that Nile wouldn't be as extreme, if he used a smaller kit with a single kick.

Shuush now noob, read what I said. Yes a double bass makes a metal band much better. DO you really think that 2 pedals hitting the same skin is the same as 2 pedals hitting separate skins each. Have you tried both? I have

Actually I have, yes.

It's going to SOUND the same whether it's one drum, two drums or programmed because drums are triggered. There is absolutely no way for you to ever know whether or not someone has used one or two physical drums if you're listening to a recording. Again, because the sound made when a beater hits the skin isn't what's being recorded, but the vibration of the beater hitting the skin picked up by a trigger and fed into a drum module. This applies to live situations, too, especially because of how fast metal drummers play, playing without triggers just isn't viable. It would sound like total ****.
