Sure maybe there are drum skins or setups that makes this better, but by this time with triggers and such, the drummer will likely have the sense and money to do it properly and buy a 2nd bass drum. It's going to SOUND the same whether it's one drum, two drums or programmed because drums are triggered. There is absolutely no way for you to ever know whether or not someone has used one or two physical drums if you're listening to a recording. Again, because the sound made when a beater hits the skin isn't what's being recorded, but the vibration of the beater hitting the skin picked up by a trigger and fed into a drum module. This applies to live situations, too, especially because of how fast metal drummers play, playing without triggers just isn't viable. It would sound like total ****.
