Oh man, I remember when this first came out. I was a bit conflicted because I was a huge fan. I’d grown up with Arise, Beneath the Remains, and even Chaos AD, so when Roots came out, at first I was like noooooo, what the **** have you done?! But it grew on me after a while. Can honestly say I haven’t listened to anything made since Max and Igor left.

I always associate a band’s “sound” with the first album I heard, so when they change things (sometimes drastically) I almost get annoyed:

Morbid Angel will always be Covenant (started going downhill after Domination, especially when David’s vocals changed).
Cannibal Corpse will always be Tomb of the Mutilated (while still an amazing band, it’s just not the same without Chris).
Carcass will always be Necrotism (Heartwork and Swansong had bangers on them, but weren’t really my cup of tea).
Entombed will always be Clandestine (Wolverine Blues was the start of the Death ‘n Roll thing - still good, but not the same).
Samael will always be Ceremony of Opposites (the move from black metal to industrial was a mistake I think).
