The METAL Thread

Absolutely stoked. After 35 years in the game, I'm finally going to see Metallica. Twice. Today (with Gojira) and Sunday (with Pantera). They'll play a different set for each show.

Things are finally coming full circle, because the first metal band I ever heard was Metallica, which led to me buying my first ever CD (parents had just upgraded their record player to a CD player) which was "Master of Puppets".

So last year we had tickets to Iron Maiden in Lisbon, but the Mrs fell ill during out trip, so we had to ome back home earlier and thus missed the concert.

When I saw that Maiden were touring again, I bought tickets straight away, and this time we made it to Lisbon for the concert - what an epic show it was!!! Unlike the 2025 one, which was in an indoors arena, this one was at the Benfica stadium, with +-45,000 people - what a proper Maiden concert should be.

It was great to see them live again after 10 years, and the crowd was great as well. Unbelievable how a bunch of 70 year olds can have this much energy!

Here's a link to an insta video I made:

If you can make it to one of their concerts, I HIGHLY recommend that you do so, who knows for how long they will be able to keep this up!

I do a metal show on Saturday nights on an internet station. We have created an hour for just local bands. Can you share which current South African bands I should feature? I already have a lot but know that I am missing loads. You can post here or DM me. I would really appreciate it.

Not current, no idea what goes on in the SA music scene these days.

This reminded me though, there used to be some cool bands when I was in Uni...some 15 years ago (sigh)

One of my favourite SA bands was Marlowe, too bad their album disappeared from Spotify but at least I found it on Soundcloud.

I don't mind used-to-be bands either - will look them up. Thanks

These guys are trying to raise funds to get to Wacken.
