The Mini Countryman Thread

The Untamed is an off-road ready Mini Countryman, with a catch

Fancy a hiked-up, trail-ready Mini? In Europe, it’ll need to be electric…

Meet the gnarliest Mini Countryman yet. Modern, BMW-run Mini celebrates its 25th year in 2026, so a rich seam of special editions was always on the cards. What we’d not anticipated was a trail-ready crossover like this.

The Untamed Edition has made its grand debut in the States, a place where stuff like this is rife. Plenty of carmakers gussy up their core SUVs for buyers who genuinely wish to take them off the beaten track, whether for a brief meander out or a properly off-grid camping expedition.

The big news concerns its ride height, which climbs as much as 19mm over a standard Countryman with the combination of new, 15mm-higher suspension and specially developed Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain tyres. Mini has tweaked the car’s steering, ABS and stability control to complement the rejigged hardware and its newly knobbly tyres house steelie-looking (but actually lightweight alloy) 19in wheels. We’re promised optimised approach and breakover angles when overcoming obstacles too.

But there’s a catch. US customers who tick the Untamed box get all of the above across the car’s various petrol and electric powertrains (barring the lower, tauter Countryman John Cooper Works, inevitably). Those of us in Yoo-rup can only spec the taller ride with an electric Countryman E or SE, our petrol models limited to a more visual makeover.

2027 Mini Countryman Untamed Edition revealed and confirmed for South Africa

Confirmed for South Africa, Mini has officially whipped the wraps of the adventure-focused Countryman Untamed Edition.

Depending on the market, the Untamed Edition will be based on either the Countryman C, Countryman D, Countryman S ALL4, Countryman E, and Countryman SE ALL4. As a reminder, of the aforementioned models, the Countryman D and Countryman E are not available in South Africa. However, the Untamed Edition distinguishes itself from its siblings — which, locally, can be had in up to three trims (Classic, Favoured, or John Cooper Works) — via the fitment of several adventure-focused elements.

The Untamed Edition features model-specific 19-inch alloy wheels, wrapped in “newly developed” Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tyres, and “newly designed” underbody protection — the latter finished Dark Steel. The suspension has also received a 15 mm lift, which contributes to a 19 mm increase in ground clearance. A roof tent, developed in collaboration with Italian company AUTOHOME, is also present. In addition, the British marque partnered with outdoor equipment firm HELINOX to create an “exclusive” camping collection comprising such items as folding chairs, tables, and more.

2027 Mini Countryman Untamed Edition South African launch date

Mini’s local arm has confirmed the Countryman Untamed Edition will arrive in South Africa in the second quarter of 2027. Locally, the Untamed Edition will be exclusively based on the Countryman S ALL4 variant, which is priced from R815 000. Pricing for the Untamed Edition is expected to be released closer to the launch date. It is worth noting that the suspension lift and roof tent will not be specified to local examples.

Mini Countryman Untamed confirmed for SA

The Mini Countryman Untamed brings the spirit of adventuring and overlanding to the fashionable urban brand. Here’s all you need to know.

The Mini Countryman Untamed adds a touch of ruggedness and capability to a product that’s seen as a premium urban family car. It’s not just a cosmetic upgrade as the vehicle gets all-terrain tyres, all-wheel drive and an increased ground clearance. For those wanting even more, Mini has partnered with Autohome and Helinox and there’s a purpose-developed roof-mounted tent and outdoor accessories.

The Untamed rides on specifically-developed 19-inch Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tyres. There are some strategically positioned decals on the flanks to help protect the vehicle sides and there’s underbody protection. There’s a suspension lift kit which raises the ground clearance by 19 mm. As a reminder, the standard Countryman has a ground clearance of 202 mm. A tow bar is fitted as standard.
