When I was shopping last, I looked at the Triton and it was a very nice fit. The only thing I wanted was the Edition 46 with the Bi-Turbo engine, but none of the dealers could confirm if this is even going to be an option.

Pricing: New Mitsubishi Triton Bi-Turbo touches down, with power to match Hilux
With the introduction of the new Bi-Turbo variant, the latest-generation Mitsubishi Triton now has the engine ammo to take the fight to the top-selling Toyota Hilux.
Now available in South Africa, the Mitsubishi Triton 2.4 Bi-Turbo is available in a single derivative, priced at R959,990. That, for the record, represents a R70,000 premium over the single-turbo flagship model, the Edition 46.
The tri-diamond Bi-Turbo bakkie does, however, undercut rivals such as the Hilux 2.8 GD-6 Legend 4x4 (R999,900) as well as the Kia Tasman X Pro (R999,995) and Ford Ranger 3.0 TD V6 Wildtrak (R1,076,800).
The upgraded 2.4-litre engine produces 150kW, matching the Toyota Hilux’s 2.8 GD-6, while torque is listed at 470Nm between 1,500 and 2,750rpm. The newcomer slots above the existing 2.4 DI-D single-turbo models, which deliver 135kW and 430Nm.
The two-blower set-up also enhances flexibility in everyday driving, with the smaller of the two turbos providing low-speed response to combat lag, and the larger one sustaining high-end boost.
The Bi-Turbo is available exclusively in 4x4 guise, with power channelled to all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. The Super Select II 4WD system also incorporates a rear differential lock, and drivers can select from seven vehicle drive modes.
The Bi-Turbo variant also boasts a number of exterior design enhancements, including roof rails, a styling bar, and an assisted rear tailgate. Inside, the Bi-Turbo features a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and synthetic leather seats with unique suede knit quilting.
The Bi-Turbo ships with a full suite of active safety features, including an Around View Monitor, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Change Assistant, Lane Departure Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

As highlighted in our Every bakkie confirmed for SA in 2026 feature, the more powerful Triton will arrive in our market this year…and in May 2026, Mitsubishi’s local arm confirmed the updated lineup, which includes the aforementioned model, is set to launch in the “coming months”. Well, the revised Triton range has officially touched down in SA, with the new Bi-Turbo derivative spearheading the portfolio.
The refreshed Triton lineup comprises 12 derivatives – split 10/2 between double- and single-cab body styles, respectively. The double-cab can be had with the choice of six trim grades: GL, GLS, Xtreme, Athlete, Edition 46, and newly introduced Bi-Turbo. As its name would suggest, the latter variant employs the Japanese automaker’s new 2.4-litre twin-turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine, which produces 150 kW and 470 N.m of torque – the latter available from a low 1 500 r/min. The twin-turbocharged powertrain is exclusively coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission. Power is delivered to the road via Mitsubishi’s Super Select II four-wheel drivetrain. Mitsubishi claims an average fuel consumption of 8.4 L/100 km for the twin-turbo unit. Matching the latter figure translates to a range of 893 km from a full, 75-litre tank of fuel. The Triton Bi-Turbo sports a 3 500 kg braked towing capacity and 1 000 kg payload capacity.

Locally, the updated Triton double-cab range is priced from R639 990 for the entry-level derivative up to R959 990 for the Bi-Turbo flagship. Pricing for the single-cab lineup kicks off at R499 999. As standard, all models ship with a five-year/unlimited km warranty and a five-year/90 000 km service plan.

Sporting a selection of model-specific elements, Mitsubishi has whipped the wraps off the Triton BF///MS.
In May 2026, Mitsubishi unveiled the Triton Terra, a limited-edition model sporting several premium appointments. Now, the Japanese automaker’s Brazilian arm has revealed a more rugged special edition. Co-developed with BF///MS (Big Foot and Mato Grosso do Sul), the Triton BF///MS’s bodywork is finished in model-specific Baroque Brown paint, with the front grille and wing mirrors featuring an Onyx Black Pearl finish. The special edition is equipped with automatic deploying/retracting side steps and a set of 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. ‘BF///MS’ badging is also present.
Stepping inside, the interior is trimmed in black and brown leather, replete with orange contrast stitching. ‘BF///MS’ emblems have been embroidered on the front seats. Standard equipment includes 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment, 7.0-inch digital instrumentation, and a JBL audio system. Safety is taken care of by seven airbags and an array of advanced driver assistance systems. A 360-degree surround-view camera array is also present.
