The most popular Android versions

After an initial slow rollout, Android 9.0 Pie is now the most popular version of Google's mobile OS, according to statistics from NetMarketShare.

The development is likely a result of the OS rolling out to more Android-based smartphones throughout 2019.

Google Propaganda.

Android 9 was the single biggest tragedy and f**kup to hit mobile phone devices. There are tens of millions of people across the globe who publicly admitted that they will not upgrade their devices.

Oh really? Links to the tens of millions of people saying they won't upgrade to Android 9.0?

Just go on to the many Android related forums and go read the comments on there. I know many locals who refuse to adopt Android 9 due to call recording being removed.

Where are the links ?

I'd suspect if it were 10s millions, news would be more widespread

Android 9 is a little more locked down than 7 was, but I certainly wouldn't call it the biggest tragedy and f**kip to hit mobile phone devices.

Android 5 on the other hand...

Android 9 had a ~10% market share in the beginning of the year:

Google hasn’t updated the Android distribution dashboard, but Pornhub has you covered

Android Pie takes the largest piece of the pie chart, running on 48% of the measured devices. Sadly, this year’s Android 10, referred to in the chart as “Q”, only weighs in at 2% of Pornhub’s Android visitors, or less than half the number of Lollipop-powered Androids still in use.

Only some flagships have Android 10, I'd say it would take another half year before you see widespread adoption.
Android 9 actually has a huge market share compared to previous years, pretty sure Project Treble is to thank for that.

Was discussing this with a friend yesterday, 10 is really not all that great compared to 9. really only a few subtle changes.

Popular version? Don't think that's the right word, as most users is not aware of what version they're sporting on their device. Could even be that most don't even know they have an Android device. I'd rather say, "Most Installed Version".

Also, do we have KaiOS in South Africa, I see it's gaining popularity in India and othe rmarkets. Even surpassed IOS in in India.

For which flavor of Android? Samsung finally added the new gesture navigation.

Otherwise smart replies, dark theme, priority notifications and finally adding heif support for smaller, high quality images.

This is besides the giant change to security updates that should make most handsets way more usable as less of a worry of using an outdated OS.

Android 10 on both the P30 Pro and Samsung S10. Huawei already had the gesture navigation on android 9 so that was nothing new to me. The system-wide dark mode also not a real deal-breaker. About the only thing that impressed was the Desktop UI but I am not sure if that was available on Android 9.

It's not the same navigation, but yeah, my Android 9 has the pill one.

And yes to Android 10 on those phones, but they make up a minority (this includes e.g. OnePlus, Pixel, I think some Nokia phones already have it).
