On hellopeter I got a combination of a copy-and-paste response plus a denial that content blocking on MTN even exists.
I have escalated this to someone who is able to extract a proper response from MTN ;)

A denial? Did they even try *140*5#?

I think I must go and open my old backups from my days of consulting to MTN - I am sure I have details for execs there and perhaps we can just phone them up and ask them.

They are busy implementing double opting in (at last). Ironic they where the first network to require double opting in but somehow stopped enforcing it.

Just subscribed myself accidently when I replaced the X's with my cell
And this is on MTN and my content billing is presently set to "blocked!" *141*5#

I tried to reproduce this behaviour on the same MTN sim and a new MTN sim this past weekend. Got the "Welcome" sms but no billing occurred. I therefore can't explain why content blocking failed in that first case. For now it looks like it is working.

Keep an eye on that balance. I would try myself, but I am not gonna risk it. Let's hope things are sorted properly then.
