Yes yes yes, I know....probably been discussed amongst another utility thread, however I wanted to dedicate an actual thread itself just to this topic. Is it me or do the new chev utility bodies look ugly ? Do you think Chev will hopefully change their utility bodywork to something better?

I much preferred the old shape. The new styling was a step in the wrong direction. It's horrid.

The previous ones were based on the German designed Corsa (Mk2 & Mk3). The new one was designed in Brazil and is a mix of Korean, American and Brazilian styling. I have to admit I am not a big fan of how it looks. The Korean Chevys look good, but not when you mix it like that.

Yea im not a fan at all of the new shape... Nothing seems to fit! Looks like they just welded parts from 5 different cars together and go that

Therein lies the rub; the bastard child, and looks the part too.
We can but hope that this styling will evolve; like an ugly duckling turning into a swan.

It's a mixture of the hideous Spark, plus some other really weird retro styling - the back end looks like a 1965 Kadett. Google pictures of a mid 60's Kadett if you don't believe me!
Whichever group is guilty of the styling, should be fired!

More or less yes. Its actually a Chevrolet Montana and its built in Brazil. Locally its just a knock down kit job. Maybe check out the wiki on it : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Montana
Seems like Brazilian cars are a bit of a hit'n'miss thing. I really liked the VW Gol - the current one is very Tiguanish and looks attractive. Shoot me for saying so but I also think the Fiat Duna (Uno sedan) would have been a hit in SA, but the Montana is not one of their best designs.

I really think that Hyundai should design/produce a utility bakkie! Been thinking that for years now... I always thought that would sell well with Hyundai's ability and approach...

It has the same problem as the new Fiat Strada, no right hand drive.
VWSA have talked about it, but they haven't been able to get them built yet.

It's built in Argentina, I think. They sell them in South America, which is almost all left hand drive markets. SA would probably be the only right hand drive market which wants these, so the cost of producing them might not be worth it.
In contrast Polos, Golfs, Jettas and others get sold in other, bigger, RHD markets like the UK and Japan.
'Half ton bakkies' are not popular in most markets. It's mostly a South American, SA, and to a small extent Aussie thing.

Mmmm, i see what you're saying. I've always wondered why the half ton bakkies never took off in Europe and Scandinavia! North America doesn't suprise me...

I think that Europe sells more panel vans for small businesses, and not many people would want this kind of vehicle for recreational use. The US and A is all about big 'trucks', these bakkies would never work there.
We are always at a slight disadvantage, because of RHD. Ford Australia may be building the succesor to the Ford Bantam though. This segment is really underpopulated at the moment. Only the Nissan NP200 and Chevrolet Utility.

What would you prefer? Over the last few years there have been quite a few changes in this sector:
The VW Caddy bakkie became a panel van
The Ford Bantum was discontinued
The Nissan 1400 was replaced by the NP200
The Fiat Strada's new model is LHD only
The Opel Corsa Utility was replaced by the Chevrolet Utility

Thats the problem.
There is nothing and I dislike those two so much I would look for something else, either a bigger bakkie or Honda Jazz.
Honda Jazz you might ask? I used to have 2007 Bantam with canopy and I was once put to shame by a Jazz. We were moving offices and a desk would not fit in my Bantams load bay with canopy but it easily fitted in the Jazz with its seats flat.
Of course if you are going to be shovelling dirt into the back it will be a problem.
