Government will probably choose someone who has an equal amount of competence in communication sector and has similar fixed views as Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri to keep continuity.

The names that comes up are Jesse Duarte,Manto Tshabalala-Msimang and Shope-Mafole. Manto was named temporary replacement as Minister of Communication so it would make sense she keeps the position. Jesse Duarte recently in an interview expressed very similar views as Ivy had during her tenure regarding internet users so both would make sense considering previous decisions made by Luthuli house regarding the department of Communciations. Shope-Mafole despite going to Cope was Ivy's prodigy to a point she ran the Department of Communications the years Ivy was unwell and is the most likely COPEr to be a MoC if Luthuli house decides so.

Must agree. When Marthinus van Schalkwyk became Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism while he was a member of the NNP it was an amazing event. Only a couple of months later he joined the ANC after disbanding the NNP.

On the positive side, Pallo Jordan was quite promising when he fulfilled this role in the past. It was during his reign that we had the telecomms green paper process, a consultative process to form telecomms strategy that embraced much of what industry was asking for. And the white paper that followed, while not quite as promising, was certainly not as mangled as what Ivy subjected us to.

Sadly, Ivy threw all of Pallo's good work out the window and we watched in tears as Andile Ncgaba, then DG, spoke at an iWeek about government's managed liberalisation wondering how it could have been so disconnected from the strategy he himself had presented about five years prior, to largely the same audience, at a previous ISPA AGM / iWeek event.

I'm not convinced that I trust Roy Padayachie. Here is a man who is now preaching for change and seemingly acknowleging the failure of mangled liberalisation, however, let's not forget that he was instrumental in presiding over it. Call me a cynic, but after watching him try and explain to parliament why the draft ICASA amendment bill was acceptable (government even wanted to rename it ECASA because there was no apparent need for it to be independent), I find it difficult to believe that he has suddenly made an about turn. All he seems to have demonstrated is that he will willingly argue in favor of whatever policy is politcally in vogue. I'm not convinced that he has ever demonstrated the leadership to form strategy, irrespective of how good he may (or may not) be at implementing it.

My votes is for Pallo. Alas, my vote is one in ~44+ million.
