Welcome to your next learner car: this is the new, electrified Nissan Micra
Renault 5-based supermini returns for a sixth time with up to 253 miles of range
Take a good, long look at the new Nissan Micra’s pristinely moulded flanks and immaculate wheels while you can. Everyone’s favourite learner car has returned as an electrified supermini, ready to be silently dinged into oblivion by an entirely new generation of drivers.
We jest, of course. This, the sixth generation of the Japanese carmaker’s venerable B-segment hero, utilises the new ‘AmpR Small’ platform that underpins the award-winning Renault 5. Though here it’s treated to a distinctly Nissan silhouette.
A silhouette designed in London and carrying a few elements of Micras gone by. Like the so-called ‘iconic’ headlights you’ll remember from the third-gen ‘K12’. Unlike that Noughties car, the new one certainly looks less surprised by everything around it.
The arches have been phattened to give it more SUV-like presence, while “a distinctive lower lip suggests a lower centre of gravity”. There’s also what Nissan calls an ‘ice-cream scoop’: an indent that runs from the front door in a line to the rear door. It is apparently “reminiscent of the shape a scoop would make if dragged across the surface of untouched ice cream”.

The iconic Nissan Micra reborn as an all-electric city car
The Nissan Micra, a familiar nameplate for many small car enthusiasts, is charting a new course into the world of electric cars. After quite a hiatus, this compact runaround is set to return in 2025 as a sixth-generation model, this time exclusively as an electric vehicle. Nissan claims this new iteration captures the spirit of its predecessors – a stylish, straightforward, and popular choice, now with a zero-emission powertrain designed for urban adventures.
Nissan's European design studio in London spearheaded the Micra's transformation, giving it a fresh and distinctive appearance. Misleading appearance - this isn't the tiny Micra you might remember. The all-new electric Micra ventures closer to the SUV territory and if you think it looks familiar, that's because it essentially is a dressed-up Renault 5.
It stands on 18-inch wheels with three different wheel designs available, depending on the chosen grade. The headlamps playfully perform a "welcome wink" lighting sequence upon unlocking and a "farewell" display when locking the car. The rear features circular LED taillights - there is no chance of mistaking the new Micra for any other car at night. Buyers will have plenty of personalization options with 14 exterior color combinations, including two-tone choices that pair the body color with a black or grey roof.
The interior carries on the legacy of simple, understated looks found in previous generations. A subtle nod to Nissan's Japanese heritage can be found in a molded outline of Mount Fuji integrated into the storage space between the front seats – a thoughtful detail. The driver gets a three-spoke steering wheel and a 10.1-inch configurable digital display for vital vehicle information. Taking center stage on the dashboard is an additional 10.1-inch touchscreen, spanning much of the dash width, for seamless control of navigation, audio, and phone functions.

Nissan Micra returns as electric hatch with oddball looks
Nissan is returning to the B-segment hatchback market in Europe with a sixth-generation Micra, but it’s nothing like the ones that came before it.
As a purely electric hatch, the Micra is closely based on the new Renault 5, even sharing body panels such as the doors with its recently reintroduced French sibling.
However, the Micra has unique front and rear styling, with large, round LED rings surrounding the headlights, and the taillights adopting a similar shape.
These front lights perform a “welcome wink” by pulsing from left to right and then back again upon unlocking the car.
Despite its compact size, the Micra is available with three different 18-inch wheel designs, as well as 14 exterior colour combinations, including contrasting roof colours.
The vehicle will be available with two powertrain combinations.
The entry-level 90kW motor pairs with a 40kWh battery, offering a claimed range of 309km, while the perkier 110kW variant packs a 52kWh battery and covers up to 407km.
The cabin features two 10.1-inch configurable screen displays, and incorporates Japanese design cues such as a moulded outline of Japan’s Mount Fiji on the storage space between the front seats, while the ambient lighting system has 48 different colour options.
Customers can choose from three trim flavours: Modern, Audacious and Chilli.
