Hi All
I will use my experience to help others with their blood pressure.
Keep in mind that high, untreated BP may lead to a myriad of diseases, such as kidney failure, blindness, diabetes etc. So...
The aim is to get your blood pressure down below 140/90. In order to do so, you will need to purchase a portable blood pressure monitor.
Dischem stock these. There are also other health shops which also may stock portable BP monitors.
Something like this :
Remember, you cannot say what your BP is like without a machine. In my case, I feel fine even though my BP might be 160/110 or something like that above 140/90. Hence the need for a BP monitor.
If you think these are too expensive, consider the alternative of being on dialysis, or having to take insulin for diabetes, or worse still, being in hospital (or, worse still, dead) after a ruptured vein....
Now, you will need to see a doctor. Your doctor will most probably prescribe you some medicine in order to keep your BP down. This helps a lot, as it will also help you to relax, knowing that your BP is within a safe range.
Don't overdo it on the medication though. If you notice that your BP is well below 110/65, stop taking the BP pills and notify your doctor immediately. Reason why - you may pass out at an inconvenient time without anybody close nearby who'll be able to help and assist you.
Once you got your BP in the safe window between 110/65 and 140/90 you can celebrate a bit
(but don't overdo that either
)
In my case, the culprit was red meat, and food/products with a high salt content. Cutting out most of that, and eating more vegetables/fruit and other food with less salt in, helped a lot.
Also, keep in mind that most takeaways is a major contributor to high BP due to the high oil/fat and salt in their product(s). Some add certain preservatives/flavour enhancers to the mix, which also bump the pressure up.
