The Official CLASSIC Mini Thread

Not a (classic) Mini expert at all. Talk to me about the above?

Betsy
She had a full strip restoration. (down to bare metal). Hydrolatic suspension with a automatic gearbox. She's got a fiberglass bonnet. Think he was building it to Couper S spec. (or stil busy)
Engine and sutomatic gearbox might be out of a austin.
She and the green monster has the same owner.

You know the owner Spiderz?

Have met him on a few previous mini events. I'm still quite new to the mini club.
I was also there on Sat with my mini. :p

If you have occasion to speak to him again... Ask him if he found somebody local for the door sealing and window rubbers pls. I was referred to an Australian parts supplier that "regularly send consignments to SA". But they are about as useful as a c0ck flavored lollipop.

Will start re-asembling mini tonight ... removed water pump to check for bloackage, replacing thermostat & thermostat housing.

My mini's battery is starting to give me schit... well, I'm trying to figure out if it is the battery... don't think I'm driving it long enough to the gautrain station and back home for the battery to charge. (since i forgot my lights on the other day :( )

charge the battery overnight.
Start the car and measure the voltage. should be around 14-14.5V with the car running, 12-12.5v with the car off.

Mini is still running hot.
Experts says the HS2 Carburatur is too small for a 1275 motor, making it run too lean.
Running lean causes more heat which might be my issue.

So now I'm hunting for a HS4 SU carb or a weber or a dual carb setup. :D

Second opinion maybe? Doesn't the 1275e run standard with the HS2?

My advice for a mini running "hot":

1. Check that the fan is installed the right way around. Its difficult to spot and it a commonly overlooked issue. http://www.theminiforum.co.uk/forums/topic/118189-radiatior-fan-direction/
2. Change coolant to a modern variety of antifreeze http://www.shutupandride.co.za/Ice6.swf
