The Official EPL 2010/11 Thread

SAF does the same, I've seen many times where he always blames refs.
At the post-match interview SAF looked really pissed he looked like was about to burst a vein or burst into tears. He got me thinking when he complained about the ref. The russians are well known for their underhanded deals so it will be interesting to see how the refs treat chelsea in coming weeks. I'm just thinking I don't know if it is the case because I didn't even watch that match

Are you joking? The result was VERY fair. United were non existent in the 2nd half.

Lol.

Time for United fans to get over this result, look forward to Liverpool on Sunday, and the League in May...

Why can't the manc supporters take it that chelsea won the game fair.

Won the game fair? sure David Luiz's goal was fair, but had he been sent off for a second bookable offence on Rooney do you think Chelski would have gotten to the point where they would win with a penalty? highly doubt it.
Had Luiz been dismissed with 20 minute to go Chelsea would have been on a back foot which means the likelihood of the strength they mustered would have been exhausted. Would Vidic have been sent off? Doubt it. Would Dogba have replaced Anelka? Doubt it as that substitutation would have been for a central defender...

Crucial moment in the game and the ref didn't take action. So well done to Chelsea beating United thanks to the help of the ref.

To the Chelski supporters who complain that United buys the ref don't be such a hypocrite

Oh wait I also forgot the John Terry hand ball incident... No penalty awarded but when Zhirkov rolledover an out stretched foot a penalty was awarded.

Just like Rooney should have been sent off against Wigan? Don't you think that was also a potential game changer? You got to roll with the punches. You WILL get bad decisions against you as you get good ones, and in United's case the good decisions far out weigh the bad, so I wouldn't complain.

The "handball" incident when Terry's arm was right against his side and the ball struck it? Look up the rule of handballs.

Zhirkov penalty was soft, but definitely a penalty.

I hardly see what the fuss is all about.

+1.

Also don't think it was a penalty. Close, but if had been given against us I would've been upset.

Eh. Dunno if I agree with that, there was nothing Smalling could've done.

I hardly see what the fuss is all about.

Think the fuss is mostly with the fact that this is the third game in a row against Chelsea (two of them with the same ref) where horrendous decisions have been given against us.

I remember two seasons ago Carrick was given a handball penalty against Chelsea for the same thing. Hand was right next to his side and the ball just happened to hit it when a Chelsea player was trying to cross the ball.

I wonder which ref will get the game at OT. Whoever it is, will have quite a bit of pressure going into it.

Can't recall this incident, but that sounds like a poor decision. Refs need to determine if it was handled deliberately. I generally refer to the "hand to ball" vs "ball to hand" argument, but even that can be a bit misleading. Refs have to make these decisions in a couple seconds. I would hate to be a ref.

A TV replay ought fix that. It cant be viewed as time wasting...coz most instances when there is a contentious decision made, the ref is surrounded by opposition players protesting.... add a few more minutes when there is a red -card.

Cricket has replays and they still get things wrong, but yes something needs to be done. Especially were they show replays on a big screen. That cause refs to see there errors and spend the rest of the game trying to "fix it".

The Champs league has an extra ref behind each goal. Has anybody seen a game were they actually do something or are they purely there for "has the ball crossed the line decisions"?

I did not complain I'm showing the hypocrites that they shouldn't bitch and moan and say united buys ref's when as you can see Chelski also does :p

as for the hand ball... watch the replay

Ball goes towards Terry he extends his ands outwards and even moves his chest towards the ball making no effort to move his hands, ball to hand? or hand to ball? Yes cases like Samual eto's hand ball incident not given. but still a debatable case.

Zhirkov's penalty yes it was soft but I didn't contest that it shouldn't be a penalty.

Something I'd like to add into this discussion... Rooney's offside second goal where Hernandez crossed the ball, defender blocked it with a header then terry prods it into Rooney's path and he buries it.

I've seen two matches - Tottenham (I think) and Everton where that happens and the goal stood... what is the ruling around that? The only explaination that I heard was that it was a back pass...
