No need to change them, so that is a bonus :)
When doing the config export, I am assuming the admin password goes with?

If you export an unencrypted backup, it can be done, but if you export using export file command, then no.

Export administrator's passowords - MikroTik

But it's a hack, so it would be easier to just log into the Mikrotik post-restore and reconfigure the users and passwords.

I dunno what the admin password is ... so guess I will need to chat to Level-7 support

Yup, that will likely be your only option. From what I can tell, the passwords are hashed and stored inside a partition that isn't easily accessible...

In other news, it seems like I can see some MT neighbours if I do a sniff on my PPPoE link:oops:

Quite normal on FTTH, the FNO's dont do client isolation over the vlans

I could mac ping one or 2 who didnt have their firewalls configured
Often people will only have the pppoe interface on the WAN interface list and not the ether ONT interface also

That's actually quite scary.

All these on my list responded to mac pings, and some would give login prompts over mac telnet.

Secure your stuff, people...
 
I always wondered if I could setup a tunnel/vpn between 2 devices on the same FNO vlan

Didnt know anyone on the same ISP as I was so never tried hehe

Stupid scary, been going on for years - there is basically L2 between many subs. At least now some FNO's are doing MAC/ARP limits I believe.
 
Got a Mikrotik ha2 today
It works in that is can access the internet
The last few ha2s I have used, the router's IP address is 192.168.88.1

This ones address is 192.168.101.1. The PC is set to acquire an IP address automatically

The router cannot be accessed using the 101 address and consequently cannot be set up

The SSID is "Mikrotik" and is open

Any bright ideas? Miro had no idea why

Winbox won't connect either, to the MAC address

WInbox sees the MAC address as C2 as the last item, arp-p shows it as C6. (??)

Have you tried with no password on C2

is there something that one needs to take into account when setting up pppoe on the Wan port?

I mean often people have the pppoe interface firewalled (by adding it to WAN interface group) while the actual mikrotik ethernet port plugged into the ONT remains without firewall enabled

sorry didnt reply to this part

Just double check that both the pppoe interface and the ethernet interface its created off are added to the WAN interface list if you are using the default config
 
The rather abbreviated user manual states:

Power down
Hold reset button
Power up while holding down the button for 20 seconds
When the lights flash, release button

I’m assuming it’s the 2 lights adjacent to the power plug

Anyway, done this very operation 3 times. No difference.

Is there perhaps another way to do a hard reset?
