The official Mikrotik router thread

guys, I recently got a fibre upgrade to 1Gbps, but I notice that my WiFi speeds on 5GHz are not getting anywhere close to the max, which should be around 433Mbps?
Any pointers on how to improve the download speed please? thanks

You'll struggle to get 1Gbps with 802.11 n/ac wireless, you'll need newer 802.11 ax.

No, I'm not even aiming for that, as the router can only do 867Mbps, but I should be able to get 400Mbps surely?

I've tried those changes, but some of the settings just don't save. For example, WMM enabled definitely kills the WiFi speed: disabled, I get +-300Mbps, enabled I get barely 100Mbps.

When I try to set the Basic Rate, it goes back to Default after I've saved. Same for the HW Retries and Adaptive Noise settings.

Is that when you connect directly via WiFi to the 5Ghz band on the ac2?

I am connecting to Deco S4 units, with a 1Gbps LAN connection to the ac2, and getting these speeds (I am on a 500/500 fibre link).

I will check the direct connection to the ac2. I don't use it on the ac2 as I have a Deco right next to it

I have come across an issue where client Mikrotiks are unable to renew their DHCPv6 PD binding if their binding was removed/deleted on the server side (Note: server is not a Mikrotik).

Testing on Mikrotik Version: 7.12.1

If the client Mikrotik displays a bound prefix but the server does not have it, and the client initiates a renew, the server replys with Status Code: NoBinding (3). In such a scenario, shouldn't the client Mikrotik restart the DHCPv6 process and send a Solicit message (as outlined in RFC3633)? Not sure if there may be some extra configuration required or a bug.

Additionally, there are no issues if the client Mikrotik send a renew when there is still an active binding etc.

Sounds like something you should contact Mikrotik about to fix in routeros?

Already posted on their forums, waiting on feedback. Was hoping someone here has had a similar issues and found a work around.

Well certainly try going to 7.14.2 I definitely saw some IPv6 fixes int 7.13 think
 
hey guys ... i have a strange issue that i have been trying to make sense of. i'm on a public ip and awhile back i forwarded some ports and everything was working 100%, that is until recently feels like since the new month maybe.

anyway i have reconfigured the ports and changed to other ports and the working of the ports is intermittent or even not at all for a session. it isnt the ports config because it was working and i have configured the ports the same way. basically i can receive files but i can not send or at least not through the ports ... not sure if i'm wording this right or not.

Could this be DNS related ? in mikrotik there is my isp dns ... shall i change it ?
 
sorry for the late reply. but yes that is what happened. previously it came right or i fixed it i dont know which. now though it is back o_0
using canyouseeme i get packets on the port that i enter in that is unique for that range that i forwarded. my router in on RouterOS v6.49.13 (stable)

Hi guys, hope you can help guide me in the right direction.

I have a UDM and have this annoying issue when i am on a team's call i would drop in and out. Doing a continuous ping shows that my latency jumps and drops a few packets at random times.

Doesn't matter how far or close I sit to the router, 5ghz or 2.4 ghz. Interference doesn't seem bad at all and i have made some changes but still issue occurs.

What else could cause this issue?

Perhaps not the 100% correct thread buthere goes...

  • Are you able to run a cable between the UDM and your PC? Wifi can be finicky esp in apartment blocks etc?
  • Is the ping to the UDM or to an external IP?
  • Have you tried setting up Smart Queues to combat bufferbloat on your line?

  • I think issue is related to wifi, on cable everything is fast and smooth, but unfortunately need to be on wifi because of layout etc. but sitting next to the router, still has this issue.

Are you using an apple product? There was an issue with location services - networking, that caused an occasional spike in latency if enabled. However it shouldnt be enough to affect performance, more just fluctuating pings. There should not be any internal loss and this is mine through an AP, switch, gateway:

125 packets transmitted, 125 packets received, 0.0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 2.039/3.927/6.274/0.906 ms
